I've got a fairly large patch of clover that is growing in my front yard. My fertilizer is supposed to kill it but it didn't. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Crossbow...it kills broad leaf but doesn’t hurt the grass...be careful as the off grass can drift over close plants.

It is a blessing to have clover in the yard. It provides nitrogen to the soil. It dies off here in the Deep South when it gets hot.

If you insist Atrazine will do the trick.

Clover is often intentionally added to the mix when seeding lawns here, especially in normal ordinary lawns that aren't attempting to be a show place and never fertilized.

It is a cool season plant. A broadleaf herbicide like 24D will kill it but it is a beneficial plant to the soil and the flower is beneficial to honeybees. If you leave it until the flower falls off it will re-seed itself and come back in the fall. We just mow around it when it is in bloom

Heck, they are selling clover as the modern super grass. Drought tolerant, doesn't grow tall, always green. Its the ultimate low maintenance lawn.

Clover grows in compacted soil. Aerating the soil will stop it from coming back or verti-cutting.

I use Weedmaster. Put the recommended amount in a tank sprayer and go to town. We don’t have too much regular clover rather black medic clover which is an aggressive increaser.

I also use Weedman. If you see anything between treatments just call them and it goes away...

PBI/Gordon SpeedZone (red) is what I use. I add a non-ionic surfactant to improve performance.

I like having clover in my yard.

I don't use chemicals on my lawn since my previous dog died of lymphoma five years ago - I'm convinced that the weed killers I used to use caused it. I don't want my current dog or grandchildren exposed to those chemicals.

Bees like the clover, and they can use every non-contaminated food source they can get. I don't care if my lawn isn't perfect.

As with all lawn advice, it makes a big difference if you have a northern (cool season grass like Kentucky blue grass) or southern (warm season grass like st. Augustine). Some northern weed kill products will kill a southern lawn. I don't know diddly about lawn types in Utah.

I've had lawns in both the north (3 of them) and south (2 of them) and in all cases spray on weedkiller is orders of magnitude better than weed n feed. Weed and Feeds suck.

I prefer BioAdvanced (formerly Bayer advanced) over Ortho Weed B gone. If you have St. Augustine, Bermuda, Centipede, or other southern lawn make sure you buy the Southern lawn version of BioAdvanced (Ortho Weed B gone is fine for both). Big Box stores may sell both.

I typically let the clover grow until the grass is no longer dormant, and then use Spectracide Weed N Feed. That kills the clover (and other weeds), and fertilizes the grass.

Sometimes I have to follow up with spot treating with Spectracide Weed Stop a week or so later for remaining crabgrass and occasionally dandelions, but I've never had their Weed N Feed not work on clover.

Wouldn't just about any broadleaf weed herbicide work here?
