Just moved into a brand new house. Went to hook up the dryer and discovered that the wall vent is a 5" oval. I've never seen that before. I tried Googling for a 5" oval to 4" round adapter. The only one I could find was at Menards and there are no stores here. Plus, they won't ship. I don't know what sadistic bastard invented this but I do want to kill him. How does one solve this problem? | ||

Check to make sure it wasn't a 4" round stepped on to make it oval. You can kill me after you kill that installed a 5" oval. Likely installed to get through stud space, never heard of such a thing. | |||

Ha! No, this is actually manufactured like that. I've tried ovalizing the flexible aluminum duct but it won't get big enough and rips apart. This is the craziest thing I've seen. If they are going to make them this way, an adapter should be available at Home Depot or someplace similar. Floyd - that product on Amazon is the wrong size. | |||

 Okay, man... Don't panic. We can make this work. To get your 4" round dryer tubing to fit the 5" oval vent, I'll just need a sleeve cut from a spacesuit, 3 and a half meters of coolant tubing, a roll of duct tape, two cellophane wrappers from meal packets, and the cardboard cover from your prelaunch checklist notebook. The instructions will be in 14 parts. Got something to write with? | |||

Local tin knocker can make a fitting. If it were me, I'd make one with a piece of 4" 28 gauge and use Mylar tape like Woodman suggested. It won't be pretty but will work. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to. | |||

Home Depot carries oval to round 90* adapters. Had to do that & a sliding super slim fit box to get our dryer to fit. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

There's quite the controversy concerning Home Depot. They list that item on their website but say that it is not sold online nor can they ship to a store. Apparently, only a few select stores carry them and there isn't one within 100 miles of my location. | |||

your dryer is 4 inch round coming out the back , right? what kind of wall are you going through? block? brick? siding and ply wood? poured concrete ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first | |||

To try to clear things up for some folks, here is a pic of the insert in the wall. That piece sticking down is oval shaped, 5" in diameter from side to side and about 2.75" in diameter from front to back. This is what I'm trying to attach a standard 4" diameter, flexible, aluminum duct hose to.  | |||

Just get any metal 5"x 4" duct elbow and bend the 5" part to fit.....that sheet metal bends really easy. | |||

Looks like a piece of "skinny vent" they used to fit in the drywall space. 4" flex should go around it. It can be a pain to get it started around it. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to. | |||
