My wife and 11 year old daughter are going to Washington DC tomorrow and Friday with school. They have been having classes/meetings for a few months going over what they will be seeing, the history behind the different monuments and how to act with respect at the different memorials. The students were offered the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They were asked to write an essay explaining why they wanted to lay the wreath and what it meant. My daughter was chosen as the one to lay a wreath tomorrow afternoon. I am so happy and honored for her. I only wish I could be there to witness it. If I can get a copy of her essay, I'll post it here for everyone to read.

Awesome! "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Don't let her wear sneakers, or these things either. It would be regretful to let a wardrobe choice prevent this opportunity. The opinions expressed in no way reflect the stance or opinion of my employer.

No double standards |
I would love to read the essay. At that age I was finishing Cub Scouts, starting Boy Scouts; my dad was a WWII vet and a Scout leader. With that background, I still didn't come to appreciate the meaning of patriotism and sacrifice until I had my own children. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. They were already told that whomever was chosen would have to skip the tour of Arlington to change for the ceremony and to have proper attire. I can't help but get a bit misty eyed as I sit here and think about it.

That's awesome. Had a similar experience with my Boy Scouts doing the flag ceremony at Mt Rushmore. An experience that they will remember forever. What a tremendous experience this will be. That is exceptionally awesome. I can't help but think there are things in our lives, single moments that impact us forever. She may have one of these moments and I can't help but think it will be an amazingly positive experience. As a father you must be over the moon! Hell... just being there is a once in a lifetime thing. Getting to participate in the ceremony? I didn't even know that was an option. I too look forward to reading her essay. Mark
