I was wondering if there is a gas powered scooter that could handle the abuse of riding between train rails or even on the rails for an expedient get home from work vehicle. Yes I realize this is trespassing but in the case of civil unrest there will be worse transgressions.

Scooter? No. You'd want something like a dirt bike.

There are, of course, compact cycles with either ICE or electric motors available. Also, I lived about a half mile from a line while growing up, and it as well as many other lines had a dirt road run it’s length. I even used to patrol those roads, which were often used by train thieves.

I was discussing something a little different with a buddy recently, and it was about my desire to live in either a 5th wheel or a Mercedes Sprinter if I ever become single. If connected to shore power/water/septic, I’d probably have one of those compact cycles to get around locally.

Because of solar panels to recharge when fuel may not be available, I may lean towards electric.

I was watching an overlanding video recently where they were traveling over a popular pass in Colorado. During the run, they had one of the members zipping all over with an electric dirt bike. It seemed to have a lot of power going up those steep runs and for an extended amount of time. I think a teenager was using it first, but then it was one of the adults. I was impressed!

Your post is a little confusing, not very clear to make a definite recommendation. Do you mean this:

Or this:

They are both gas powered scooters.

Why not a truck/car, is that not how you get to work?
Or a real motorcycle. Does it have to be small and portable to fit in your office or what? What is the distance of travel? Maybe a bicycle?

If the only criteria is 2 wheels and gas powered there are only about a zillion choices. But I'm guessing you meant it has to do something else.

So far I prefer all of para's suggestions!

Perhaps one of those fancy e-bikes?

Seems to me a mechanical mountain bike with some provisions to mount a pack and a bunch of water would be the best way to go.

I was thinking along the lines of streets are blocked, certain roads impassable, unsavory looking groups trying to stop travelers, and I might need to hop onto some tracks or cut through a field just to get home to the family. Gasoline only. I guess a dirt bike would be best. Maybe along the lines of a used 125cc. Not sure how well the old 80cc would haul an old man on dirt. Nothing fancy or expensive, just another means to get home.
