$ 335,000,000 one time payout

If I don't get to win it,
I would love to hear that someone here
would cash in big time.

good luck to those taking a chance

As an annuity, that's about 1.34 million a month for 25 years. Unless I can't count.

Since Powerball went some years back from $1 to $2 a play, halving my already infinitesimal chances, I don't bother. So I guess my chances are zero.

If nobody wins this time, the jackpot will be so large that the cost to play is better than the odds (1 in 292,201,338).

Kind of a moot point as I've got this sewn up. Wink

I don't play the lottery as a rule, but when it gets this big sometimes I get one just to dream about. I think this is one of those times.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I rarely buy a ticket, but did this morning when I stopped for gas. Could have thrown my money in the trash instead, but I'll amuse myself with the possibility for a few days.

If I ever win a big lotto jackpot, absolutely no one is going to hear about it other than my lawyer and financial advisor. If I have to put my name on the claim ticket, I will be changing my name and all contact info later that day.

A coworker once said about buying a ticket on these big jackpots (the only time I do) that "it's a pretty inexpensive dream."

In AZ you have 180 days to claim a ticket and can remain anonymous for 90 days after coming forward (signed into law 4 years ago). Right now AZ lawmakers are pushing for full anonymity via HB 2552. Waiting a few months, with a little behind-the-scene lobbying, might be all it takes to retain your current identity.

Two dollars is my limit on these games. Statistically, the greatest increase in your chances of winning happen after you buy one ticket. Beyond that, there is no significantly greater benefit in buying ten tickets.

It's my belief that the Pennsylvania Lottery has misrepresented odds for years, in an attempt to lure the masses into playing. The Millionaire Lottery is one example. 500,000 tickets, $20 each, each ticket with a single unique number on it. Officials draw four numbers for four million-dollar prizes. In my backward way of thinking, that gives you four chances in 500,000 of hitting a million bucks. Lottery officials claim you have a 1/125,000 chance of winning.

I'm not a statistician, but believe your analysis to be incorrect. Buying 10 tickets actually does give you a 10x better chance of winning, it's just that the odds suck so bad it's unlikely to matter.

ummm......4/500,000 is exactly the same as 1/125,000.

With money that big, I could manage my finances like the Federal government and STILL be rich next year!

If I could just eke out a mere 0.005 percent interest, and assuming that Uncle Sam got 40% off the top, I'd still gross over 1.8 million bucks a year off interest from principal. My kind of scratch there!
