Is anyone familiar with how the process would work or if there is any mechanism by which my family and I could sponsor like-minded South African families or individuals for residency and/or citizenship? Maybe a group of SA expats could help? Serious question.

Do you have a source for that claim? It made the rounds in 2020 but was found to be fake news.
I've seen nothing in the local press even suggesting it.

Chinese troops in Africa, yeah, its called a small base in Djibouti and liaison postings at their embassies around the continent. Guarding entire industrial parks? Provide a link or, two please.
