The moon was really clear here after sunrise this morning, and it was kinda cool to look at it and think "hey, there's people up there somewhere right now about to fly around that in a tiny little capsule". Not something that's ever been the case before in my lifetime.

Saw this video which I thought was interesting. Even at the moon, theu are still orbiting the earth, thankfully.

Further from earth. Not total distance traveled. I’m pretty sure that some folks in the ISS have traveled further.
Unless you count the motion of the earth around the sun. And the motion of the sun through the galaxy, etc. In which case it would be the oldest person that ever lived.

I didn't roll through the whole thread, but here's a link tot he virtual tracker if anybody hasn't seen it yet.
I think its great to see what brilliant minds can accomplish and space exploration is one if not the greatest tests. However, as somebody who grew up with the Space program and the "old" NASA I have dulled my enthusiasm a bit with the current NASA. This began when they went wildly woke. 24 Americans have already orbited the Moon starting with 3 in 1968. 12 Americans have been on the Moon. 3 Americans have gone twice. That was 58 years ago. All those "old" NASA engineers with the flat top hair cuts and the shirt pocket protectors holding slide rules should have a huge monument built to them for what they accomplished so long ago, and never losing anyone on a flight, only to be repeated now after this hopefully successful mission.
And, why on earth do we have a Canadian occupying one of the seats?

Because Canada supplied many of the components. And committed to the program. He earned the seat. Canada was involved in suppling components for Apollo too.

It is surprising how slow Artemis is going, 1220 MPH, this far out from earth. I expected much higher speeds at this point in the mission. Artemis will accelerate up to 25,000 MPH at atmosphere interface due to earths gravity, pretty wild stuff and similar to Apollo return profile

^^^Beat me to it. I type slow.
I thought they'd pickup speed as they got closer to the Moon, but they kept slowing down. They were under 1,000mph for quite awhile. I guess they needed time to gawk at the Moon.
