I consider myself a “Apple guy“ but I never paid any attention at all in anyway to the Apple Watch. My question is: is there anything that large bezel Apple Watch can do that the small bezel Apple Watch can’t do? I see they have the GEN three on the site for about 200 bucks. That will do for my needs (tracking workouts seeing messages coming in etc.). But I feel like the large bezel version is too big for me. Thoughts?

I bought one for Mrs DF last November. She didn't think it was something she needed. Got the Gen 4 cellular. Now she loves it. She's free of toting her phone around.

To answer your question: no, there is no difference between the 2 sizes on what information display. Both do the same functions and display the same data. There is a pixel count difference between the 2 sizes. I have the bigger size since they came out and not in any way oversized.

If you have the Apple Store app on your iPhone you can get a relative size difference and subtle appearance difference in the app before you buy.

Good luck on your shopping.

I bought a 38mm GPS version 3 almost a year ago for $150 shipped - awesome one-day deal.

I like the 38mm. If I had to get a new one, I’d get the smallest offered. No way would I get the 44mm; my wrists just aren’t that big.

Get the Gen 5. The upgrades to its software are worth it.

I picked up a Gen 3 a few months ago when the newest one came out and they dropped the cost on the Gen 3. The smaller version was $70 cheaper at the time and I didn't want to spend to much in case I didn't like it. I also do not like huge watches.

It works fine. I kinda wish I had a big one but only because my eyes are not what they were a few years ago. I can still read it and everything but not as easy as I think a little larger one would be.

I like it for working out and hiking. I was worried about how rugged it would be but I have done alot with it and nothing has hurt it. Before the recent mess, I played hockey with it every week. The only activity I have taken it off for was rock climbing with my nephews.

My 3 runs the same software. It’s not the software, it’s the hardware.

I have the larger series 4. I bought the larger one due to old eyes. Lots and lots of things I can do with it. Things like Spotify control, stock quotes, weather and the list goes on

Wife has a 3 series and loves it. I have a small version of the 4 series. I like a smaller watch an am holly with the small one.

The larger one is not that big. I have thin wrists, and the 42mm is not really that big on me.

The larger size has a better display and a bigger battery. I would definitely recommend the larger one.

Probably best thing is to try to see them in the flesh. I'm not sure whether Apple stores have re-opened yet, the ones in this area (Orlando area) were closed because virus. Best Buy carries them, but the local Best Buy store was not letting any customers in today, stupid over-reaction to virus. They might bring the watches out to the parking lot for you to examine.

If you area Costco member, they are carried there, so you could see them there.

I don't know how old you are, but if like me, you are at an age where "I have fallen and I can't get up" might be a factor, the Gen 3 is the last one that does not support fall detection. My wife ordered a newer watch with this feature for me, to replace the Gen 2 that I have been using. Fall detection started with Gen 4.

The Amazon sale is for GPS watch only, so can’t use it in place of iPhone.

One very big difference between the larger sized apple watch versus the smaller is that the battery is physically bigger in the larger size watch, which equates to better battery life.

I picked up the series 5 at Costco Friday, tried to set it up and realized my phone was a 6 and wouldn’t work with it, so now I have new phone coming tomorrow. I’ve been overdue and I have a good friend in Micronesia who has access to WiFi but nothing to connect with and the 6 will be perfect for his needs. If I end up not liking the watch I’m going to feel pretty stupid though.

If you are going to/want to use the features. it is an okay watch. But I had quite a few things that I don't use and also found some of the apps overly intrusive. I know you can turn them off but when this one dies I am going back to an analog. Just the opinion of a curmudgeonly Luddite. I do have the larger version to compensate for old eyes.

Worst case is I wear it going up and down stairs for the fall alert. I’m still happy with my Sea Dweller after 20+ years together. This is for occasional use as an information and entertainment source, plus I’m just curious. Smile

I went back and forth on big vs small because I don't have gigantic forearms and thought maybe the larger one would look like a garbage can lid on my rest. I ended up buying the larger one. Glad I did. It's really not that bad even a smallish arm. It's hard enough to see and punch buttons on the large one, and I only imagine this will be worse on the small version.

My favorite feature is it can unlock your iMac computer password for you. In addition to silencing iPhone alerts, etc.

I went with the small. I don't do much with the watch itself that doesn't use voice to do, so the minimal size increase wasn't worth it.

For those that care, Apple offers a Military/Veterans discount of 10%. Go to the Apple store and type that in. Make sure you have signed up for one of the military service verifiers. I use ID.me. DS Logon is the other. The site will use them to verify your status then you're good to go.

N.B. the selection is limited to us. You won't get a choice of watchband, etc. For 10% that was an acceptable trade off to me.
