Question: I see there are GPS/Cellular and GPS only models. I assume the GPS only models you have to use with an iPhone whereas the GPS/Cellular, you can use the watch independently for calls? _____________

Just for the hell of it |
Celluar you can use without a phone. GPS needs to be within range of your iPhone to work. GPS only will have a slightly longer battery life. GPS is cheaper. The GPS version is good for most people. I can see the cellular version being a benefit when running or other activities where you don't want to carry your phone. There are time when I wish mine was a cellular version. The biggest drawback, for the cellular version for me besides the upfront cost, is the monthly fee with your carrier for an added device. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. I'm a mechanical watch guy and that's what I prefer to wear most of the time. That said, I have Gen 4 that I wear at work and when I'm doing something that the watch helps with. I like being able to get silent notifications of calls and messages so I can glance at my wrist and see if its something that I need to handle now or if it can wait. Doesn't look good to dig your phone out of your pocket during an interview or interrogation, but sometimes the guy in the other room needs to get you some information ASAP. I like the heart monitor and ability to control my music from the watch while running. It's neat to be able to open my garage door with the watch or unlock my car if I lock my keys in the trunk. I wouldn't say it does anything truly life changing, but it does offer some things that are really convenient.

I've had my Apple Watch (series 1, gen. 2) for three years. (Looks... damned if I didn't buy it on this date three years ago.) I would not be without it. I literally use it every day--and for a lot more than just telling time. It is unquestionably one of the handiest things I own. I may upgrade this year to a newer version with a larger face and water resistance. (My current watch is not water-resistant.) I don't have particularly big wrists, and my 42mm watch isn't big at all on me. "America is at that awkward stage. Ignored facts still exist |
I suppose there is no use for the Non cellular watch without the phone —- correct? .

It'll still work as a watch It'll also still track health. I believe music can be stored on the watch and played through Air Pods. "America is at that awkward stage. Well, yeah: You have to have a compatible phone to set it up in the first place. I would imagine that true of even the Apple Watch with cellular. "America is at that awkward stage. Will the GPS only model track my walking and bicycling without my phone? That's really all I care about.

I made it 56 years without owning an Apple product until this last Christmas, my phone was ready to bite the dust so against my better judgement, the wifey talked me into a new IPhone, ( her and the kids have every conceivable Apple device) lol anyways I digress, shortly after I purchased an Apple Watch, I really didn’t want too, my Seiko and Gshock were all I ever needed. Granted I didn’t get the one with the phone in it, I believe it’s a 3, anyways I never really knew how handy it would be. That being said, I only wear it at work, I love getting call, email, text notifications on this little thing. As soon as I get home from work it comes off though. It’s very handy for work applications but when I’m done for the day, I’m done. I do recommend one if your need to be in touch throughout the day is important. My wife goes nowhere without her watch or phone so after hours I figure I don’t need my watch. The kids always call her anyways lol
