I’ve got a lot of duffel bags and backpacks, but wouldn’t mind having a nice dressy classy weekend bag / carry-on bag of good quality. Most likely leather or a very nice canvas Or other material. Big enough for two or three days, but hopefully small enough for carry-on, although that’s not a dealbreaker. What do you guys recommend?

If cost isn't an issue, I'm kinda partial to Frost River.

I love my OGIO layover bag. Its heavy canvas and I've put it through the gorilla in a cage test on Southwest several times and it still looks brand new. Very lightweight and lots of storage.

Red Oxx, made in Montana duffles are really nice. I have and recommend Safari-Beanos PR5 Medium Duffel Bag for a nice carry-on that holds a lot.

Carrying a bag through an airport is for chumps. Get a spinner which is better than a regular roller as you can stand it vertically and push down the airplane aisle.

Briggs & Riley is one of the top two or three luggage companies, and they have been my carry-on for over a dozen years. Get the 21" expandable spinner carry-on. It's international carry-on size (i.e. slightly smaller than domestic carry-on and can be used on both international and domestic flights), and every component is high quality (e.g. self-repairing zippers).

After carrying my bag through 4 airports in the past few weeks this will be my next purchase.

SF trying to hit my bank again. I need a new carry on.

1) debating to get 22” vs 21”. International travel involved.

2) B&R sounds nice. But at $600-800, I could buy cheap ones (Sam, Travel, usual consumer brands) 3 times for the same cost. Each lasting 2-4 years of travel.

Debate: BOCO?

Maybe not classy enough but I have two to recommend.

One is the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 and the other a Condition 1 duffle.

The Bihn is carry on legal for sure and the Condition 1 should be. The Bihn also has backpack straps and I’d recommend the Absolute carry strap for either bag. I dislike wheelies for carry on, but when I do it’s a Pelican.

My son has recently been studying abroad with two full-term semesters, and two two-week programs and another two-week program coming up, and used his Pakt Travel Backpack quite extensively and is very happy with the practical and useful design of the product and the available accessories, as well as the quality and durability.

His bag has travelled with him to over 24 countries, and when he came home with it this weekend, it looked almost as good as new with no noticeable wear to the seams, zippers, shoulder harness, the fabric, handles, pockets, tie-down points, etc.

He has the 45L size.

Not an inexpensive product, but a very good investment for frequent use.

Well, I’m a cheap bastard when it comes to things like luggage. I’ve been using a Delsey “hard side” carry-on I got from Costco (in store) on sale for $70-$80.

May not be “flashy” but looks good enough for me and hasn’t suffered any visible wear over a couple,e years of use.

Top and side handles as well as extending arm. Expandable and a built in TSA compliant combo lock. What caught my eye is it’s a “top loader”. Instead of splitting in half like most suitcases, the full compartment is accessed from a large opening on the side of the case.

I use a Saddleback Leather Doctors Bag for most of my weekend trips. It can fit a decent amount of clothes, toiletries and possibly and extra pair of shoes. If I’m traveling for more than 3 days, I’ll bring an actual rolling suitcase.

There isn’t much to say about the bag that hasn’t been said about Saddleback Leathers other offerings. They’re well built and solid, but they do come with a decently heavy price tag. The biggest downside for me is that it is made in Mexico. Still, they’re well built.

I check Dave’s Deals on their website and occasionally a bag that I’m interested in will be discounted. My Doctors Bag was purchased as a blemished bag and I can’t figure out why it was blemished. Perhaps it was mismarked.

They also have a Saddleback Leather Deep Pocket Duffel that looks interesting. It’s similar to my bag, but with some handy pockets on the front.

I also have a Large Leather Briefcase that I’d gotten from SBL. I’ve used that on occasion and it also works decently well as a weekender bag. If I’m going to be on my feet walking this bag hangs slightly better.

More people stop me and ask about my Saddleback Leather Bags than anything else. They make some cool stuff, but it’s not for everyone’s taste. Good luck with your search!

lol, I guess I’m weird, I went to Fla for a week last year in my circa 1980 Jansport black nylon backpack I used to use for school.

I do have a spinner I got from rc it’s got a Swiss flag on it. $75 I used it to go to Jamaica last January for a week. Mrs. Mike had a spinner too, most of my bag was her stuff, but doing it carry on v checking bags was fast.

I'm into bags. I used to have Briggs & Riley; I was very partial to Tumi. But I gave those away.

If you're going to use it as a carry on, then that's a specific use case. Even more specific is if you're going to take international versus domestic. If international, weight is going to be a consideration. So the lighter, the better but still needs to be secure.

I go with TravelPro now, spinner. I had to buy new ones early this year because the M'Fers decided to include the wheels in the length of the limits. As others said, spinners are nice.

Also, for international, you're limited to a carry on that you put in the overhead and one personal bag. The personal bag has to go under your seat and each airline has their own limits still. You have to go with the most constricting limit of your travel. I plan to use my personal bag as my carry bag for my destination so I go with PacSafe. I also carry a packable duffel bag, 80 liter in case I want to come back with souvenirs. The clothes go into the lockable packable duffel bag to make room. I also bring a packable 30 liter back pack if I want to go shopping in my destination place.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Really leaning toward the Saddleback Leather bags. Do they ever have a sale or discount code? Nearly $800 is pretty tough to swallow.

Why TravelPro over B&R now? What about Rimowa?
Just curious.

My travel bags, when travel was multiple times a week was Hartman. Used to use the trifold Garment bag back in the day and you could carry it on, but today it has to go in the hold. 30 years later it's still in top condition, leather has properly aged but then again Hartman uses high end leathers, mine was part of the Herringbone Deluxe group..

Have two original Hartman Briefcases, on Hardside and a softside, bought before Samsonite bought them out.
