Woman living behind me had a copperhead enter the kennel, the dogs thought Mommy bought us a new fancy chew toy. They mostly had sore body, not eating and swelling. Snake may have given a warning bite (less or no venom) and not a kill bite.

In any case I wish the best for your dog.

Just another day in paradise.

Sorry to hear. Sorry she is going through this and you have to deal with a pay the bill J. But she is definitely worth it. Hopefully this will get her on the mend and fully recovered. Good Girl Jelly!

Is it possible that she was bit by a tick and got Lyme disease?

Did they do a CBC? How about a chemistry?
The CBC will tell you the nature of the white cells and whether or not they’re elevated.. what types of white cells can indicate the nature of what her body is fighting- obviously the chem will tell you about her functions.
As a previous owner of a red heeler, my fingers are crossed for her. They are tough little dogs.

It’s a very localized infection.

I don’t think it’s a tick as she’s been on semperica trio her whole life and to my understanding that kills the ticks before a disease can be transmitted.

The three tests they did today were:

1. Cytology 1 site EVP
2. COAG - PT
3. COAG - PTT

The last two sound like blood tests but I’m not sure what they were looking for. Maybe the cell count you mentioned.

And yeah she’s a tough little thing. We’ll get it figured out I’m sure.

No, they aren’t a CBC - at this point you’d want a complete blood count to see what her body is doing to counteract this. The cytology will give you a local view of the action around the insult, but I’d want a systemic overview. A CBC will break down the amount of red and white cells (what type they are) and the types usually face specific battles in the immune system -eg eosinopils fight parasites and get involved in allergic reactions, so if there’s a larger than usual number of those, you’ve got a clue to track down.
Frankly, I’d be awfully surprised if they haven’t done an CBC already and ruled out what I mentioned. It’s a relatively cheap way to get a quick assessment.

And I hate to say it, but please don’t presume anything about ticks. I’ve had my dogs on flea and tick prevention all summer, fall and winter, yet one of my dogs came down with Lymes over Christmas - completely took him off his feet. He’s still not completely back to normal, and I don’t know if he ever will be.

Hopefully horsedoc or slab sides will chime in - I’m a semiretired tech, and not familiar with your area.
Best of luck with her.

Wow!...it's great to see that photo. Hard to just lay around with a lab puppy on the loose.
