The popular vote means a great deal in the electoral college, because the point of the electoral college is determining the number of electoral votes from that state, based on the popular election within that state.

Just because there wasn't some illuminati level conspiracy, doesn't mean that a lot of individuals didn't unconsciously work together unknowingly to rig the election. Here is one possible case out of many.

you stop the count in several democratic led states and then in the middle of the night drop a few hundred thousand votes almost entirely for one person and people who question that are conspiracy nuts? You don't allow anyone to watch the tabulation but people who think they are trying to hide something are crazy? Not entirely true. The National Popular Vote Compact only becomes effective when there are enough member states comprising the 270 votes necessary to matter. It’s not to that point yet.
