The Ford dealer told me mice are chewing on the wires on my new Bullitt Mustang! What can I do to keep the rat bastards out of the cars in the garage?

did they show you evidence?
Is there evidence of them in the garage?

If yes, get a cat or set traps. Use peanut butter. They are easy to catch.

There is a device that plays a high frequency noise that will drive them away. Traps and poison are also an option. I also hear that Corvette wires don't taste as good.

It's what fukked the CAN bus in my BMW.

I had to put traps under the hood at night to get them.

They love the corn oil based insulation on the wiring.

I got me one of those electric execution traps and it kills them by the gross.

I smoked a dozen chipmunks this past weekend with it.

Glue traps are fantastic, get those big rat traps and drop a dollop of peanut butter in the center. Mice like to follow walls and edges, lay them out in a few strategic areas and see what shows up in the morning.

Up at higher elevations in the mountains, certain areas you have to be careful of marmots bitting through brake and radiator hoses. Not uncommon to see vehicles, parked over a tarp and the tarp edges pulled up against the vehicle and tied to prevent the rodents from crawling under and up.

I use Ramik mini bars. I put one by the batteries of my vehicles and then wherever else in the engine compartment where they'll stay put. Seems to work.

I also scatter them along the walls of my garage and my shop as well as putting JAWZ traps down (against the wall with the jaws facing inward).

Before I started using the Ramik bars I was killing probably a dozen a week. Since, I'll trap one only every once in awhile. They work.

Simplest and least expensive method with things you probably already have.
Bucket, board, two nails, water & sunflower seeds.
Two minutes setup time.

1. 5 Gallon bucket half full with water.
2. 2x4 or other board for ramp to top of bucket.
3. Two nails near end of board to place over lip of bucket, holding ramp in place.
4. Sunflower seeds, pour in bucket to float on water.
5. A few sunflower seeds at top of ramp.
6. Mouse climbs ramp for sunflower seeds.
7. Mouse jumps down in water which is hidden by floating sunflower seeds.
8. Fish mice out of bucket with the two nails on end of board.

The standard method is to eliminate the food source.

Great Karma, please add me as unlucky #1, thank you.

Otherwise, traps. I like snap traps as they are instant death. I’m going to check out the electric shock trap Mars mentioned though. The walk the plank method sounds intriguing, it maybe a bit cruel.

I’m not a fan of poison because you can’t control where the corpses are. If they die in your car, I guess the rotting corpse will only smell for a little while. If they die outside, maybe the amount of poison in them isn’t enough to bother whatever animal winds up eating them.

Bronze wool stuffed into what ever crevices they are using to gain entrance to your garage. Keep plants and trees trimmed back to prevent their aerial assault. Bronze doesn’t rust like steel wool.

It was running like shit - only 8,000 miles so I figured it was some computer problem. They fixed the wire N/C

Moth balls.
To keep the mice away from your car put some moth balls in your engine compartment. Put some moth balls in a handkerchief tie it closed and hang it under the hood.

I was in the shed today & saw two mouse traps flipped over. At 1st I thought maybe the dog was in there, then comes a mouse.

He seemed fairly friendly, which gave ideas of snake shot from a 41 mag or 357. Instead of that I freshened the bait on a few traps then put poison in an old birdhouse on the shelf.
