I was researching the 2021 Suburban and wanted to see what my car was worth. I have a 2017 Suburban LT, with 60k on the odo. It's in pretty decent condition, I purchased from a Chevy dealer (friend was GM) in 2018 for $42k. It looks like they would give me $38k for it or $40k carmax. Apparently there's a chip shortages for new cars, making the preowned cars hold their values. Just couldn't pull the trigger on a $70k+ Suburban.

Took my wife's Camry in for service at the local Toyota dealership this morning and noticed that there were very few NEW cars on the lot.

Car prices are nuts. High end of KBB value is $4,500 less than I paid two years ago for it, and I got a steal then. If you have an extra vehicle that you were thinking about parting ways with in the next 6 months, do it now.

If for nothing other than S&G's go look up your used car value.

We've strongly considered selling some vehicles right now. I've got a very lightly used fusion that I don't use very often. It seems to be worth nearly 2/3rds of what I paid for it 6 years ago. Tempting. Of course my money was worth more back then...

KBB has my 2017 Honda Pilot at $29,660 private party with 38,000 miles on it. I paid $36,000 brand new lol. So much for the 10% dealer hit.

I think I posted here in another topic about selling my sister's 2019 Subaru Crosstrek for her. Last year she bought a 2021 Corolla hybrid but kept the Crosstrek thinking she'd have a car at each of her residences, but in reality after getting the Corolla she just never drove the Subaru much. In 2018 she paid just under $27,000 for the Crosstrek, it now has just under 28,000 miles and clean trade in value is $26500! CarMax offered $26,200 and I was going to take that but another dealer close by agreed to pay $26,500 and is coming to pick it up. She drove that car for 2 1/2 years and 28K for only $400 in depreciation!

Got my daughter a new RAV4 back end of March when they has some really good incentives.

We went to Carmax first and it was busy, like Costco on the weekend. And prices were super high, so hence the new car route.

In laws are in the same boat. They have a 2017 Premier with 60k and he wants to upgrade to the 2021.
Dealer can’t even get any here. In laws want the top of the line and dealer said not going to happen anytime soon.

My mom just bought a new Explorer Platinum (I think) at a large dealer in Vegas & she said Inventory was shockingly low.

Makes me want to see what I could get for the Malibu, if I had a title for it...
Would make a run at my mom's F150, since it's a spare car for her now.

...and folks wondered why we were willing to pay $4994 for a extremely clean 2003 Subaru Outback with but 62k on the clock from a used car dealer 5 hour drive away from us back in March. This for one of my sons. Yeah the book was just $4k but with an additional sweet deal on a new timing belt and head gasket as part of the pre-sale maintenance, we, and everyone we know including our local go-to mechanic, says we got a great deal.

I just sold a 2015 C7 Corvette coupe to a dealer for 18k less than I payed for it new (6 years). I’d bought a couple vettes from him in the past, so we knew each other, but he couldn’t write a check fast enough!

I’m trying to get my Dad to sell his car now while the prices are crazy. But he see’s it as his last freedom even though he admitted he won’t be driving.

Sold my f150 for same price I bought it for almost 4 years ago.
Unfortunately, looking at a Tundra and the prices are absolutely nuts.

Even with inflation I think gas guzzlers will drop in price a bit after supply picks up and demand goes down due to gas prices. Happened during Obamas term, and its sure to happen again.
Im holding onto my Forester for dear life the next 2 years.

All new Tundra coming out pretty soon, maybe toward the end of this year.

Rumor is, without a V8 option. Turbo 6 only. Yet to be confirmed.

Our local Honda dealership was practically begging my wife to trade in her 2011 Accord when she'd go in for service. Good timing actually as she was wanting to upgrade to a roomier CR-V.

We usually hit a Carmax or Drivers Way to get a feel for what they will buy our trade-ins for. We don't want to mess with private sellers, so we'll at least know the worse we can do on a trade-in. Historically they've been spot on in price and fairness.

The Honda dealership ended up giving us almost double what we could have gotten for it, and still gave us a smoking deal on a new CR-V.
The used ones were going for damn near the price of a new one.

But why?

I don’t understand this. It’s almost like the housing market, none of this makes any sense at all!
