I have yellow jackets making a nest under one area of the skirtboard of my wood-sided house. At least hopefully just under the skirtboard, and not further into the wall. I can't get access to the nest without ripping the skirtboard off, which I'd like to avoid, at least until after they're dead (winter-time?).

Anyone have good luck with a powdered poison that I can coat the point of entry with, after dark, or early morning? I'm willing to take the wood off and dig further in to remove the nest/queen, but would like to do so when they're totally inactive, in the winter. What sayeth the hive? Thanks!

Sevendust is good, but also any of the spray foam wasp killer is good stuff. Blast the crap out of them at night.

Don't wait, they can do a lot of damage in a short time.

I've killed thousands of the bastards this year. I use Spectracide Wasp & Hornet Killer with great effect. Locate the nests and spray at night and they're gone by morning. All of them!

This has been the worst year for yellow Jackets that I have ever seen.

What damage? I have yellow jackets in the ground. a LOT of them. Several nests. I've just been waiting for winter. A mistake?

I have NEVER seen anything like it. The only reason I haven't acted is I'd probably need 20 cans to get all the holes.

I haven't kept track but I'd bet I've gone through 10 or more cans. Next spring I'm going to buy a bunch of Sterling Jacket Traps to catch the queens before they nest. From what I've heard, it's a small window between the time they immerge and the time they start a nest.

Bengal ant and roach spray. It's a fogging type spray that will go under and in tight areas.
I spray base boards close all in my house twice a yr. I don't have bugs.

I’m allergic to stings and this year has been really bad for yellow jackets. Dealt with three ground nests using an Ortho foaming spray. Works well. Lawn needs mowing and I wouldn’t want my dog to stumble on a nest. Can’t just leave them.

I have heard that concentrated Diazinon, straight from the bottle, will do the trick, but as that may be a use inconsistent with labeling, I can't comment directly.

Don't waste your time. Bad year for YJ's. Trying to reduce their population by trapping queens is ineffective.

As far as treating an active nest, doing it at night with an insecticide dust is best, applied with a bulb duster.

Wait until dark +30 minutes. Then 6-12 oz. of gasoline down the hole.

This was my thought, but with a quart of used motor oil down the hole. Thought this would nuke their nest and any survivors would move on. Nope, two weeks later and they're going strong as ever!

No match used.
I was a disbeliever until I tried it.
My former method was the foaming yellow jacket spray can stuff. Worked ok, most of the time.
You have to do any of the methods after dark to be successful.
