Every year, the same thing. I get an email telling me my Subscription (we had two, one for each vehicle) is gonna cost $25+ per month starting in July. That's for each vehicle.

Usually I just call, tell 'em I want to cancel and they cut the price WAAAY down. This time I was serious about dumping Sirius.

I called, got the usual runaround, got transferred to the Customer Care guy, I said "CANCEL!" and he immediately started saying he'd get me a good deal.

I told him no several times, then raised my voice. I told him we'd had this service for at least 20 years and every year, for the last ten at least, I'd have to go thru the games. I said if they'd just have given me a reasonable price, we'd still be customers.

He apparently realized he couldn't fix this one and I got my email with the cancellation.

Funny thing, neither my wife nor I had used Sirius since Pandora come out. I believe the same corporation owns both, but Pandora, for us, is just a once a year hit on the credit card. No customer service, no arguing and no games.

We kept it in the unlikely event Pandora went out. Neither of us can stand AM or FM and never, ever turn them on.

I know there are other competitors to Pandora, but none I am aware of have Western Swing and 50s and early 60s country (which I like since it is what I grew up with).

Good day for us.

Bob

I quit jumping thru their hoops about 2 years back. I had called got them down to $9 for 6 months, the rate timed out and then it jumped to $25. I didn't catch it for 3 months (which is exactly what they want). It tipped me over the edge and I just cancelled (had to tell 'em 4 or 5 times) it and decided I wasn't going to play their games.

I have a few SIGs.

I put a reminder in my phone for a month before renewal. I go on the chat and tell them I will only renew for $6/month. Hasn’t been a hassle for the past few years.

I had enough a couple years ago. Every year they tried to add a second vehicle that I’ve never owned and I got tired of their shit.

If it weren’t for Seize The Day with Gus Lloyd on the Catholic Channel I would cancel.
Until I can get that elsewhere I’ll keep playing the game to pay $6.99 a month.
Gus is worth every penny!

We kind of liked Sirius but every time we’d drive past a tree or a building it would cut out. A buffer would be a good solution.

I suspect that the word “smarmy” was coined to describe Sirius’s marketing practices.

Patriot (125) is the only reason I continue to play their games. Can’t get Breitbart or Andrew Wilkow anywhere else. My XM dial never moves from that channel (except occasionally to 80s on 8).

I just make sure the CC info they have is no good. Rate hikes don’t surprise me that way. THEY have to call ME.

I did this with DirecTV recently. We switched to YouTube TV, which has essentially the same offering as far as channels we watch, for about half the money. Now, I can get DirecTV for about that price, but every year (sometimes two), I have to call and threaten to cancel and then get rewarded. It's a flawed model.

Same basic experience calling them. "What if we could...", "Would you be interested in...", "For just...". I made it through about four of these saying politely but firmly that I was not interested and just wanted my service cancelled.

Finally, the lady says "I understand that you want to cancel, but..." and I cut her off and said "I don't think you do, because I keep saying it and you keep trying to sell me more service." That was finally it.

I haven’t used Sirius-XM in years and am surprised they’re still in business. I’ve been using Spotify for a while now and really like it.

I recently had the easiest renewal I've ever experienced with Sirius. Started an online chat with them, they immediately offered the "intro price" as my renewal price for a year and away we went.

A couple of times I've got the free trial subscription when I bought a new vehicle, but I just let it expire so they never get their hooks into me in the first place. My experience with Sirius has been that the channels I listen to (like, 2 of them) have limited playlists and so you get a lot of repeats, especially during long drives. It just isn't worth even a few bucks a month to me.

I liked Sirius, and used them for a number of years. The pricing model, where you have to beat them down in a phone call was a pain, but I liked the service.

But now, with large amounts of storage on a phone for my own music and streaming via Spotify, I have no more use for Sirius.

I've had a subscription for almost 20 years, and have never had to fight for the low monthly rate (5.99 I believe). Just a phone call once a year.

Last year they offered me a permanent change to that rate, telling me I would not have to call again. I took them up on it.

I use the app as well as in-vehicle and listen to all kinds of things. This last week I've been listening often to their Tina Turner tribute channel- great stuff. That's not the type of thing I've seen elsewhere. I think it's a great service.

I don't use Sirius.
What are you guys using it for?
Mostly music, shows, combo?
Just curious.
Music has come a long way now with phone streaming and digital input in car stereo's today so using it for music would not pay off for me.

I guess I am just a creature of habit, I got Sirius in my last vehicle, which included driving all over the east on the way to work cases. Terrestrial radio had way too many dead spots and I was never a big fan of recorded books, listening to those while driving just helped to put me to sleep. Sirius and XM were competitors then and I got a trial with a vehicle purchase. It seemed to fill the void and a didn't have to constantly search for a local station while driving wherever I was. That being said, I did find many local market sports and talk in different cities that I liked, but for constant music and programming, it filled the gap for me. Yeah, I go through the annual crap, they piss me off and I cancel, but end up keeping it. Just renewed at $5.99 for the year, with tax and fees like a $73 charge for the year. The real hook for me this year is that I have listened to NHL Hockey local broadcasts in the app, and I would probably miss that more than the car radio anymore since I am no longer on regular long road trips. I am sure that I could figure out a way to cut them off, but i cut cable and internet for the last 9 years, so if I spend $6/month, I think its an indulgence I can afford.

I use the app rather than the satellite. From Apple CarPlay using the app the signal is over cellular. There are some bugs but it’s better than the cutting out under trees.

I was one of the Sirius OG’s. Came onboard when Stern left radio and went to Satellite. Back then Sirius and XM were competing for listeners; Stern was at the height of his popularity and XM never recovered.

Those were a few of the greatest years of radio and Stern I can remember. So incredibly inappropriate (much of which he attempts to deny today) and shows would go on for hours and hours.

Eventually he began to change (post-Artie) and I quit…or at least attempted to, but for $1/month (or something like that) how could you?

One year they tried to play hardball so I quit for good and never went back.

Side note - back then the antennas were so strong you could broadcast your signal to other cars. In the house I could have my antenna in my basement and get the signal in my garage.
