Heat up some chicken soup for her--it's easy to do. Hope she's better soon. If it's an upset tummy, give her some warm Vernors ginger ale.

I'm empathetic to my folks when they're not feeling well, but they have to work it out the way I do..........tough it out. Frown

Having said that, ramen noodles or instant potatoes or even condensed soup is an easy way to minister to someone under the weather (if they can keep food down).

Yeah, I despise soup in a can but the campbells chicken noodle w/ some cackers is edible. And some hot tea and honey.

There's no such thing as instant potatoes.

They take time to grow.

I mix all my condensed soups with only half a can of water, not a full can. And I use black pepper liberally.

Chortle, chortle chortle.

More than a few years ago, this is the woman who taught me that can be a very bad thing to note.

About 5 weeks ago, I got hit with flu & shingles literally onset the same day. Toughest weekend I think I ever lived. To add insult to injury, on day two I decided I wasn't miserable enough & quit drinking coffee cold turkey. Caffeine headaches be damned. Razz

Instead of water, use chicken stock, or throw a chicken bouillon cube in the water before you add everything else. Takes it to whole other level.

With a little more butter and cream instead of milk.

Make as thick or thin as you like. Wink

Why use instant mashed potatoes when real mashed taters are so easy, and so much better tasting?

Select 6 or 8 white or red thin-skinned potatoes. Russets will do if that's all you have.

Peel.

Cut into quarters. (Not critical, but does reduce the boiling time.)

Boil in salted water until fork-tender. Use a large stock pot, and plenty of water.

Drain.

Before returning potatoes to stock pot, toss in a quarter stick of butter, let the warm pot soften/melt it or apply very low heat.

Return drained, but still hot, potatoes to pot, and mash with the butter.

Add 1/2 cup (or to taste) of quality sour cream to pot and mash until fully blended.

Damn! I'm making myself hungry!

I cook around half the time and Mrs. Flash cooks the other half. We both have our specialties, and we go with them.

No big deal at all. I have no idea why so many men can't cook.

Many men can't cook because they never had to and/or had NO interest in doing so. As a result, they never learned to do it. We all have our interests....Many men never learned how to turn a wrench either!

In a married household, it's all about shared responsibility, and utilizing inherent skill sets early on because shit needs to get done. Later on we learn new things based on either need to do so, learning as you go, or desire as we discover new interests.

I think most men would agree on owning Family Security as a primary responsibility, followed by the following secondary/instinctive responsibilities: Vehicle Maintenance, Lawn Care and Cooking Outside over Flame. Everything else is negotiable... Wink

Or. Or… boil water, melt butter, remove from heat, dump pouch of dried potatoes in water along with milk, stir. Five minutes, tops.

I get what you’re saying and I love cooking good food, but there’s “easy” and then there’s “easier.”
