We’re over in Gilbert attending to our new rental houses, so thanks for the tips!
Any more outdoorsy things?
We’ve been to Lake Pleasant for lunch, haven’t been to Superstition Mountains.
Did have a great time in Mesa at the Rio Salido gun club with the OpSpec training class.

Scottsdale Gun Club and then Bear Arms not too far away.

Best Mexican is Los Dos Molinos on Camelback. Valle Luna on Cave Creek Rd. is good too. Old town Cave Creek is good. Best pizza is Grimaldi's (three locations). Scottsdale is about 25 miles long and two miles wide. Very diverse areas there. I think Old Town Scottsdale sucks, but it can be good people watching, if you like scoffing at d'bags.

You might consider visiting Dillon Precison in Scottsdale. They might even let you see the big gun collection there.

Grimaldi's ... yes, the ex- loved Grimaldi's. Nice presentation, decent room, great location in Old Town Scottsdale.

And also where I learned, the hard way, that expensive cured meats sit in my gut and cause a complete shut-down. Some fancy sausage they topped the pie with caused me three days of pain. I've nearly stopped eating cured red meats as a result. That was January 2016 ... Still eat pizza, just not topped with fancy sausages I cannot pronounce.

Scottsdale is a gorgeous place to wander. If you're able, bombing around at 7am on a Sunday morning, all over, to get the feel for the layout, is not a bad way to plan. Mark the areas which look interesting.

You have a day? Ten days would be better. :-)

Old Town Cave Creek .. not made it yet but did attend a fair / out door thing of some sort, in Cave Creek. Great people, lots of fun.

There is a bluegrass festival in Flagstaff I might get to one year. And a strawberry festival. Plus the Prescott Bluegrass festival (free) every year ...

Lots to do in sunny Arizona.

We're staying at Comfort Suites Phoenix Airport. Brother/wife are driving in from Chicago area. None of us are familiar with Phoenix. My wife (born/raised in Albuquerque) is a big fan of New Mexico style Mexican food. Short hikes okay, but my brother's mobility is limited some.

Some great ideas offered. We're looking forward to our visit. Thanks!

That helps. You are very close to the airport and to the freeways.

Here's some nearby stuff to keep you in that 'neighborhood':

The closest shooting range is C2 Tactical Tempe if you do want to rent something full-auto for fun.

As mentioned, Old Town Scottsdale is a good destination for the afternoon for shopping and people watching.

For Mexican food in Old Town, try Frank and Lupe's. For liquid refreshment, the Rusty Spur is a teeny little old bar that will have live music.

For getting outside for a bit, try Papago Park. Numerous easy trails around the buttes there. Also the location of the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens.

Enjoy your visit!

Free airport mono-rail to the Light Rail. Almost free Light Rail, just ride it and take a look at town.

I say almost free. I've ridden it a few times and have never been asked to show a pass or ticket.

If you like BBQ, head over to Little Miss BBQ on University. The door opens at 11am. I've always shown up between 9:20-9:40am and been one of the first few through the door. Life changing brisket.

If you're into craft beer, Wren House is a must. Best brewery in the state.

The Desert Botanical Garden is also a pretty special place. Especially if you can hit it on an overcast day and the Sun isn't beating down on you.

The Penske Auto Museum is also a pretty cool place if you're into NASCAR and Indycar.

Both my parents are from Los Alamos and also appreciate good New Mexican food. Si Señors, 600 N Alma School Rd, Chandler, AZ 85224, will set you up nicely for a New Mexican fix. They have both mild and hot green chili.

Everyone is saying SGC - heard they are going out of business so go now if you really want to rent a mg on their range. Just an over priced gun shop with range so I don’t recommend it.

For a good steak try Steak 44 or for seafood/steak Ocean 44 but make a rez now.

Ditto on Si Senor. It’s my wife and my go to Mexican restaurant. Luckily, it is only 3.5 miles away.
Beware of the white dip, it is hotter than you think it will be.
