Would you want busloads of tourists crowding your local beaches? The design makes good sense to me.

I don't think Robert Moses felt that way. This "theory" is as old as the parkways themselves, it isn't a product of the modern hyper sensitive, see a racist behind every tree times of today.

That said.. road wise, it's mostly a long moot point, for about 50 years now when they finished the LI Expressway.
