This forum is appreciated by me in a huge way. It is a very minor "inconvenience" to log in for what this place provides. Where else can one find specific information from real knowledgeable people and also entertainment/humor without the condescending attitude on other sites? It has got to be a enormous PITA to monitor all of the correspondence and always a monetary expense to sustain the site. Thank you for all you do Para and all of you! 12131, I don't know you at all but I love your guns and photos Big Grin Para's 3 1/2" 27 nickel is one I hope to have a similar one of. Some Day, hopefully!
Kudos~
Eileen

This is a very nice forum with mostly adult comments. I appreciate how much information is here and have learned how little I know

I honestly prefer it this way. I think it’s kind of nice being behind the curtain of invisibility to the rest of the world…

I also understand that can hamper us having any new member, or just helping out someone with a SIG that just needs a quick answer to a question already addressed here.

Para, is it possible to log in on two devices simultaneously using the same ID/PW?

I was wondering what had happened. Thanks for staying transparent, Para, and thanks for the work you do keeping this place worth a return trip even if I do more lurking than posting these days.

I log out to save Para bandwidth costs (I'm sure I forget a lot). Not sure if that matters, but no one has ever sent me a bill for usage here, and I highly suspect that it's not free for para. Anyway, thanks for the heads up Para.

I finally just read this. I found it odd a while back that I had to log in. Makes perfect sense now. I'm sorry you have to deal with all the nonsense, but grateful you are able to get through it. So many corrupt people to deal with these days. Thanks for your work Para.

Also, no pop-up ads, or any of the annoyances we have to put up with anywhere else! I got some sort of reminder e-mail from Glock Talk today, seems it's been years since I logged-in, so I did. Ads everywhere, threads contaminated with irrelevance...

It's so nice to not deal with that here, and it's thanks to how Para set it up!

The log in just changed for me. I always stayed logged in on my phone. The other day it changed and now I have to log in every time. I little burdensome but would rather to that then have the site overrun by bots and scammers.

Also changed my PW to something more complex.

Thanks for the added security detail.

What you're describing is a problem on that device. Delete the browser cache on your phone, restart the phone, log back in to the forum and it will behave just like it used to.

I noticed that one had to log in more than once in the past few months to view the forum.
I was a registered member 2002-2017, but have checked in regularly (weekly if not daily), since then.
Re-registered so I can always read this great forum.
Thanks, Para

What's your actual username? If you have an active account, there's no reason to re-register.

Spiders/crawlers and search engine bots routinely access this forum and virtually all other web pages which have any kind of activity. This is simply a fact of (internet) life.

Lately, we have been inundated by these crawlers, at one point showing over 10,000 "guests" on the forum. Almost all of these (with the exception of Microsoft stateside) are from Asia: China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, etc. Ali Baba, Temu and so forth.

The result has been that they are sucking up our bandwidth and we have, as of yesterday, only halfway through the month, used up our entire allotted bandwidth per our host's data plan.

It’s not new, just the boss keeping up on his commitment to the members.

TAP30501, I found your account. It's foolish to throw away an account with 800+ posts and a 2002 registration date just to end up being the FNG.

Let me know you've seen this post and I'll get things straightened out for you.

The result has been that they are sucking up our bandwidth and we have, as of yesterday, only halfway through the month, used up our entire allotted bandwidth per our host's data plan. Normally, we might exceed that allotment one or two days before the end of the month, and this isn't a concern. Actually, it indicates we have the correct plan for our usage.

Restricting general access to the site, so that you must be logged into the forum, eliminates the problem, so, for the remainder of the month, I will be toggling guest access off and on as the need arises. I'll be speaking with our host on the best ways to get this under control. Blocking IP segments helps, but for reasons I'll not go into, it's not practical.

Just so you guys know. And for those of you who are regular readers of the forum but have never registered, now would be a good time to do so. When you register, do not use a VPN, as I have to be able to determine your actual/approximate location to see that it coincides with the location you specified in your profile. After registration and you're approved, you can go back to using a VPN if you wish, although there's really no need to do such a thing here.

this is part of the issue we had with the old Jouster forum,

bots got in by the 1000x's and were almost impossible to root out daily,

we ended up closing the forum to random joining people, you had to ask to get any info from me (admin) or sysad,

took one of the moderators about a month to clean up some of the ''members''

why, poor site maintenance (definitely not a problem here on sigforum!!!) and an older platform,

so,

Thank You Para for your responses to my emails, and THANK YOU for this forum
