I take several meds with a multi vitamin and fich oil daily.
I see/hear all these ads for super foods and other supplements that are supposed to help with everything from blood flow to increases HGH.
now that I am past 45yo I am wondering about supplements that will support working out and healing. I work out 3-4 times a week (weights and rucking 3-5 miles with 25-35 lbs) but have been plagued by a couple minor injuries that limit some of my work outs and am hoping to find something that would help that.
Yes, I stretch and eat my veggies

, mostly spinach, peppers, lemon juice and have been limiting my carb intake.
For those that are "middle aged" what do you take?
I’m 68, 175lbs and a runner. I run anywhere from 35-50 miles/wk. I’m on no prescribed meds. I take Calcium 1000mg, Magnesium 400mg, Zinc 15mg + D3 10 mcg, 81 mg aspirin, 1500mg glucosamine + 1200mg chondroitin daily.

Calcium
Magnesium
Vit D
The first two offset the harmful effects of Omeprezol and amlodopine.
Saw Palmetto-replaced a prescription med for prostate
Fish oil-reduced my cholesterol
Vit D-My tests showed it was low, this helped as do frequent walks in the sun.
FredWard, I’d be curious what you’re experiencing from the Omeprezole. I’ve been taking 40 mg a day for at least 10 years and haven’t noticed any negative side effects. At least nothing that I’ve attributed to the Omeprezole. Thanks!
I take an ON men’s multivitamin, some joint health stuff and a couple of times a week some B-12 sublingually.

whoa...10+ years?
Unless you're cleared by your Dr, you may want to get that confirmed and have your kidney's checked. I took Prilosec/Omeprezole for close to that length of time and my Dr, immediately told me to get off it. I wasn't supposed to take it as a daily med but, only take it when you know you're going to eat foods that will cause my reflux to kick-in. I take it before and a few days after those meals.
As to the OP, the only thing I take is a daily multi-vitamin.

If you know what meals cause reflux, why do you eat them at all?

sjtillOmeprazole (Prilosec) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI); there are several others such as pantoprazole (Protonix) and Nexium.
PPI's completely inhibit stomach acid production, so are good when weaker medicines, H2 blockers such as famotidine, are not adequate.
Long-term use is usually discouraged for a number of reasons:
1. Decreased calcium absorption, which can lead to osteoporosis and fractures
2. Increased risk of pneumonia
3. Vitamin B12 deficiency, as gastric acid is needed for B12 absorption
3. Acute interstitial nephritis (kidney disease)
4. Dementia: suggestive observational studies, no causal relationship yet established
PPI's should be tapered gradually to avoid rebound high stomach acid levels.

maxdogMy gastro has me taking Nexium every day. Otherwise get reflux. Had lesions in digestive system about 4 years ago also. Been taking since. Only side effect is insomnia if I take it late, so I take it in the AM.
Within last year have trouble absorbing iron so have to take infusions periodically. Nexium? Docs don’t know for sure.
Have a blood test every 3 months for kidney, liver etc function.
I take multivitamin and fish oil when I remember.
Maybe I need something for memory.
Knees are shot so no jogging. Do lift weights on regular basis. Still bench 190 on a very good day. I’m 72.

I can't help but think that there is a level of snake oil with this stuff.
I'm not saying that there is anything bad for you in there. In fact, it's all good stuff...just freeze dried fruits and veggies ground up and packed into capsules.
The issue I have is that I can't imagine that you are getting enough of anything to do you much good, even if taken as directed (six capsules a day at ~$200/month Amazon prices).
I suppose it's not going to hurt anything but your wallet.
ETA: Sorry dewhorse, didn't mean to drift your thread.
No, this is the info/debate I am looking for....so much of what is advertised sounds like god's gift and some may in fact be helpful...I am looking to sift through the BS to see what actually works

SPWAMike0317Glucosamine Chondroitin-been taking it for years. My knee used to click, I have dinged a shoulder kayaking and dinged an elbow in a fall, all of which has been mitigated. My doc says if works for me there is no downside. Doesn't work for everyone.
Multi-vitamin
Vitamin C
Magnesium
Fish Oil
CoQ-10
I drink a cup of water with about a tablespoon of lemon juice first thing in the morning, a bit of hydration and digestive health.
Taking prescriptions for cholesterol and blood pressure.
I am 66, pain free, have full range of motion and reasonably healthy so something is working.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in? February 17, 2021, 10:08 AM
jhe888Turmeric has been trendy for a year or two now. How did our parents survive without it?

For me it’s not any particular type of meal, I get it all the time. If I stop taking for more than a day or two it comes back. Supposedly caused by me having a very small duodenum. Who knows. Sorry for the drift!

I took that for a while, and it seemed to help. Then, after a few years it didn't seem to, so much, anymore. I switched to Turmeric. Much mo bettah. For me, anyway. CBD oil seems to help me, too.

I don't know about yours, but mine survived with a cabinet-full of prescription meds and OTC pain relievers, neither of which I've needed.
Turmeric is less expensive and has less nasty side-effects.

1. Because I enjoy eating
2. Since I know the triggers, I know when I can indulge and when to back-off and adjust my diet.
2. Prilosec/Omeprazole isn't a daily medicine but, an acid regulator.
