Picked up my first pair of boots since a cheap pair 25 years ago when I was a kid.
Need to get some boot socks, as the regular socks I've got dont really cut it for long wear comfort.

Bought a couple pairs of Cody James at the Houston rodeo yesterday & they got the job done for the day.

Rather not pay $14/pair if I can help it, which is what we saw in a few shops around the rodeo.

The consensus will be Merino socks, and $14 will be a bargain.

It seems like a lot, but when you consider that a quality pair of Merino socks will last years (I have some that are nearly 10 years old and still going strong), they are well worth the money.

I wear Wigwam hikers.

I've been very happy with the Ballston socks I purchased from Amazon. 81% merino wool and 4 pair are just under $30.

Working well for me, and 1/3 the cost.

Have darn tough for other reasons (hiking, running) where wicking is essential and they do fine, but these wranglers do just what I need for 1/3 the cost.

Are you talking "cowboy" boots?

I've found plain old white over-the-calf athletic socks are fine for most of the year. For winter wear I like Icebreaker Merino Ski Over The Calf Socks, made with New Zealand Merino Wool. They're spendy, but warm, comfortable, and essentially the same bulk as the athletic socks.

Ariat, I suppose Cowboy is an appropriate descriptor.

Tried some plain calf height socks & there's a spot that rubs just under my ankle bone, no issue with the thicker boot socks.

I really like the Cool Lite Hiker socks from Wigwam. Very comfortable and made in the USA.

They are my everyday casual socks.

They also make many other models, from dress socks to heavy winter boot socks.

Another vote for Darn Tough. I wash mine in the machine but air dry them. I wear holes in them before the elastic fails...

I've ordered from them a few times and have a few pairs of socks. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, will look into them.

Does the oxymoron sock of thick/padded, but not overly hot/sweaty (I am in Houston) exist?

I had a spot in my Luccheses that rubs at the top of the boot so I had to buy some socks much taller than I had previously owned. I bought these over the calf socks and I'm very happy.

X2 for Thorlo
I also have wigwam and am happy with them.

Merino is great, but it's gotta be a blend to last. My everyday ones aren't merino wool but my week long motorcycle/backcountry wear socks are.

Yep, the Wranger three pack is what I’ve been using for years. Have a white pack and a grey, get the job done without a lot of heft. And at that price easy enough to replace when needed.

Go to Tractor Supply Company. Get a three pack of Schmidt Workwear over the calf socks. They are semi compression and very comfortable. I've been wearing them for a few years. I even wear them when at work. 12 hour shifts on your feet can be a killer and they really help with circulation. They stay in place and your boots won't eat them. And you won't pay 14 dollars; for a three pack.
