“Elon Musk has reportedly poured $1 billion into the media empire behind CNN and Paramount, potentially giving the billionaire a powerful new foothold in Hollywood and sending shockwaves through an industry packed with his fiercest critics.

The world's richest man has acquired a stake in Skydance, the entertainment giant controlled by David Ellison, according to people familiar with the investment who spoke to Semafor.

The blockbuster deal could mark the beginning of a much larger alliance between Musk and the Ellison family, whose sprawling media interests include CNN, HBO, CBS and Paramount.

And for liberal commentators who have spent years attacking the Tesla and SpaceX boss, the prospect of Musk gaining influence over their corporate parent company could prove particularly uncomfortable.

Among those potentially affected are CNN anchor Jake Tapper and HBO comedian John Oliver, both of whom have publicly criticized Musk.

Musk's investment marks an extraordinary twist in his long-running feud with CNN, a network he has repeatedly ridiculed. …”

I hope the end point is that CNN is shut down and an entirely new entity is created to take its place. Real news, real journalism. And it doesn’t need to be 24x7. Top of the hour and bottom of the hour. 15 minute snapshot. No ads. Then a test pattern.

Ah, I don’t know. I guess shutdown could be okay, but I’d be fine with it just becoming honest and balanced. His takeover of twitter seems to have worked out okay without shutting it down.

Of course, showing certain on air personalities the door could be a lovely thing…

how many 'news' organizations do we really need.

I think CNN has far outlived its usefulness and the damage its done to the country by promoting its lies and hatred for this country is reason enough in my m ind to simply kill it off.

They're all saying the same thing anyway. And it will free up space in the briefing room, a few seats on a greyhound bus

Bought himself a seat at the table and a voice, hope he can make a difference.

I can't see CNN going away but, do they change their format?
For awhile they were attempting to insert actual entertainment programing with Bourdain, then Longoria, Tucci and a few others...however the ever present 'breaking news' interruption would cut-in and it would end being that DJT farted and Jim Acosta had to make a comment. Roll Eyes

Kind of like it used to be.

The problem with these outlets is that they really aren't "news" anymore, they are 90% commentary on the news. So, people aren't just being given the news (like they should be), they are being told what and how to think about the news.

I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with that, as long as the two were separated rather than having leftist commentary masquerading as news.

I think that someone could do quite well with a platform like the original CNN. 30 minute cycles of just the news, weather, sports, etc....

So there’s actually a chance that there’s a decent, national news source that actually reports…
(Wait for it…)

Not some biased, left wing, liberal bullshit?

I know it was a meme, but I wonder if we can really get $100 million for Mel Gibson to make an accurate version of The Odyssey filmed in the Mediterranean with an all Greek cast.

My 2000 shares of WBD stock went from $7 to $30 and then bought at $30.

I was just given cash. I have no idea if what Skydance will be offered at. If it's over $30, I'm gonna be fucking livid.
