Years ago maybe 6 years, I told people here I was visiting Vermont and Maine. I got a great recommendation for Dream House Country Inn in VT and we’re staying there again. We got recommendations for lobsters in Maine, one was in downtown (?) or their wharf and another was quite a drive but it ended up in a restaurant by the waters. Sorry that’s all I have to go on. I would love to return to those places but i’m willing to try new recommendations. Thanks much! "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." This place is good and I think someone here recommended it: https://www.trentonbridgelobster.com/restaurant I think they are closed for the season though. Wherever you go, don't get a big lobster because the meat is not as tender as the smaller ones.

What parts of Maine? Portland Lobster Company is my usual go to in Portland. A lot of the seafood distributors will steam for free, if you have a place to eat it (that's bu fat the least expensive method). I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

All the time |
I know I have mentioned that place here. Born and grew up in Maine. That is the spot to go if you're close. They are open in Winter, but only to pick up live lobsters. Edit: Hi, Rey! Didn't look at the topic starter. I asked a family member still up there. This is inland and may not be in the region for you but they said McLaughlin's at the Marina. Do you have a location where you'll be?

When I have been in Bah Habah, I have eaten at Geddy's, the Chartroom, Jack Russell's, the Side Street Cafe, Jordan's, and McKays and a couple of other places but I cannot recall the names because, beer... Everywhere I ate was fantastic. The food, the people the atmosphere, all of it. Five Stahs! And there are a lot more of them to try. This time of year, you're pretty much limited to places like The Monkey mentioned. The best price is always at the co-op or Mom and Pop "Live or Steamed" lobster shacks, but they're generally seasonal. Where you gonna be and when? Be careful when following the masses. Staring back from the abyss |
Ate at pretty much all of those last week, and Stewman's, the latter having probably the best chowder I've ever had. There's an Irish pub called Leary's that has about the best lobster roll I've ever had as well. Good eats in that town! It sure has changed in the 30 years since the last time I was there though. Nut-to-butt people...everywhere! Tourism certainly ruins good places, and yes...I see the hypocrisy. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. |
If you happen to go to Kittery Trading Post to check out guns, Robert’s across the street is very good seafood.

I’m in Vermont now. Will be driving to Maine tomorrow Monday. I’m not trying to go cheap cheap. 2013 was when we were in the area and we were paying $16 per whole lobster and considered it a bargain for how fresh and tasty they were. We can go anywhere I can drive in an SUV but I prefer to avoid driving through snow. Can you translate Monkey’s bah habah for me? ETA: never mind. It’s Bar Harbor. Had to keep repeating it. I got Harvard the first times. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. OK it would really, really help to have an idea of the area you are heading to. Just crossing the border into Kittery (go to KTP for sure) is way different than getting to Portland and is way different than actually getting up the coast where I live. Price is not going to really matter in any meaningful way. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

The Maine coast is a good distance from you will be. Having said that, a great spot that is pure Maine Lawbstuh (Say it right or they may not understand you.) at a fair price is the Lobster Pot in Kennebunkport. Lobster Pot 62 Mills Rd Kennebunkport, ME 04046 .

Duuude, that place is awesome. If I recall correctly, that is also where Bush II lies to hang out. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I haven't been there in a while. I am glad it is still there and I am glad that I am not the only one that likes it. I once drove a co-worker from Providence to Kennebunkport and back on a late afternoon/evening just so he could sample his first real Maine lobster. He was a Californian and had never had anything like it. I got him hooked for life. .

Was the Lobster Pot the place where the front door to the restaurant was right on the road, and they have photos of celebrities and politicians eating there on the walls, or is that Mabel's Lobster Claw? Is this place still there? This other business has the same address and is listed as permanently closed. https://www.yelp.com/biz/lucas-on-9-kennebunkport

Kennebunkport was a bust. My fault. I should have checked it out first. But coming out of the B&B, I had no cell service and I just plugged the address into the car’s gps. We found the place but it’s called Fire and something grill and it was closed. Most of the places there were closed. We headed to Portland. Pulled into a hotel, told the desk clerk i’m Looking for fresh Maine lobster restaurant. Fortunately, she gave me Dimillos on the sea. When we got there, I recognized it as the first recommendation we got from Sigforum the last time. The prices are a bit higher that it was in 2013, $39 instead of $16 but it was still good. We’re holed up in Freeport for tonight. Tomorrow we head to Bar Harbor and look for the ones, Sigmonkey mentions. After that, we’ll probably head down south unless we have to spend another night in Maine. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. Didn’t see your recommendation until now. It’s about 2 hours from where I am (Freeport) and i’ll Make my stop on my way to Bar Harbor. We just figure where we want to go next. Plan hotel reservations then drive. We’ve been driving since early October and made stops for Yellowstone, Branson Missouri, Louisville KY, Washington DC (7 days), Philadelphia PA, Boston MA, Bristol VT, and now Maine. I’ve been able to hit 4 places featured in Drive Ins, Diners, and Dives. Woodward BarBQ in KS, Seafood Lady in KY, Tony Luke’s in PA, and Rino’s Place in Boston MA. You can’t eat the liberty bell.
