Looks like that's for the One+ line which uses batteries more like what's found in handheld power tools.

Got me excited for a minute as I'd like to replace my 2-stroke Stihl weedeater with the Ryobi, but it takes the big batteries.

If you already are invested in the One+ lineup, this annual "Ryobi Days" battery deal is a great way to grab spare batteries plus a free tool, especially a tool that you'd only occasionally use and therefore wouldn't normally justify spending money on.

Or, funnily enough, you can pick up a second 2-pack of batteries as your "free tool". So you can get a total of 4x 4ah 18V batteries for $99. Considering they're normally like $60 a pop, that's a downright steal, if you don't need another specific tool but just want some extra batteries for your existing tools.

Ryobi has a number of 18V weedeaters that will use these One+ batteries: https://www.ryobitools.com/pro...detail%5D%5B0%5D=18V

I have their upper tier brushless 18V One+ weedeater, and it's fantastic. I'll never go back to a two-stroke weed eater.

In my case, I have the 40v mower & blower, so sticking with the 40v stuff & not adding a new type of battery/charger.

Yes! I love this time of year. I don't really need two more batteries, but hey, since when do "need" and tools belong in the same sentence.

Well, darn. I stopped by HD yesterday. The 2 pack of batteries is $99. But there is no hammer drill option with that pack. The hammer drill is free with a 3 pack of batteries for $199.

Now, I am no math major, but when 2 batteries are $99, I am not sure how they think 3 batteries for $199 is a good deal.

Guess I'll have to think on that one. I don't really need 3 batteries since I already have 6 of them.

The important distinction is that their other "3 batteries and a free tool" deal includes a nicer brushless tool, compared to the more basic tool included in the $99 deal. Those higher tier brushless tools are higher quality and have a better and longer-lasting electric motor than the standard Ryobi lineup, and typically cost 2x-3x as much as the base brushed motor tools.

Here's the 3x batteries and brushless tool deal:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/RY...Bag-PSK007/318898636

The fancier brushless hammer drill that's part of that deal is $129 alone, so you're basically getting those 3x batteries for just $70 more...
https://www.homedepot.com/p/RY...-PBLHM101B/314109445

Compared to their cheaper basic brushed motor hammer drill that's normally just $40:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/RY...andle-P214/206666886

So as long as you have a need for 3x additional batteries, I'd say the $199 brushless deal is actually a better deal overall than the basic $99 one...

That's the problem, I do not need 3 batteries. Heck, I don't really even need 2 batteries. I already own 3 of the 4ah and 3 of the 2ah.

And while I know the brushless is nicer, for my limited use, it's not needed. My last Ryobi hammer drill lasted 15 years before it has started slipping this past year.

I would much prefer the $99 deal with regular $89 hammer drill than the $199 deal with the $129 drill.

Yeah, I've reached maximum benefit from these battery packs as well. I'm up to 6x 4AH and 2x 3AH batteries, which is plenty to get me through even a jam-packed full day of yard work and DIY tasks.

Now I just buy the bare tools - sans battery - when I need to add something else to the lineup.

I'd suggest looking at reconditioned tools on Direct Tool's website instead.

A reconditioned brushless 1/2" hammer drill is currently $50.

OR

step up to the SDS 1/2" for $70

SWEET! I ordered the hammer drill, and a fan, and a portable power source, and a high volume inflator.

Thanks for the link!

You are welcome. I use the heck out of my Ryobi dual use inflator. One of my favorite tools, actually.

Same here. It's a fantastic tool. Mine has come in handy more times than I can count for helping people with low tires, or tires that have gone flat from an unnoticed slow leak so they can make it to a tire shop, not to mention all the neglected spare tires that folks discover are flat when they suddenly need to use it after a blowout. Plus it works on bike tires and balls for kids.

A 3AH battery lasts years in it, even with semi-regular use, and despite seasonal temperature extremes from living inside of a car.

Mine's this older discontinued model: https://www.ryobitools.com/pro.../details/33287150250

I don't have any direct experience with the newer replacement model: https://www.ryobitools.com/pro.../details/33287178780

The 3 batteries that come with the $199 pack are the "HP" batteries.

The HP batteries have a higher discharge rate for high draw tools.

Some tools won't notice the difference, but some of the HP marked tools will de-rate their performance if it can't pull the required amperage from battery.

Milwaukee does the same thing. The M18 Fuel batteries use 18650 cells, and their "High Output" batteries use 21700 cells with a higher rates discharge. Ryobi and Milwaukee are both owned by TTI.

Good catch. Even more of a reason why the $199 deal is the better deal overall.

I guess I'll have to check my batteries now... I never paid attention to the HP distinction. But from what I recall, they match the more silver coloration of the HP batteries in the $199 3-pack, as opposed to the more black coloration of the base batteries in the $99 2-pack.

I have a mix of the HP and non HP batteries and I've found the HP batteries make a difference when using my impact wrench on lug nuts and the circular saw, depending on the specific material being cut.

Do it online, the stores are already picked over, especially the second pack of batteries.
