At 11AM, it's 34°F here. I'm not complaining, because it's clear. Which means that it's sunny and not raining.

It was 10 here and I had a burst pipe in a wall.
Dammit.

It was 10 degrees here and then I noticed the plastic wrap over my sliding patio door had deteriorated and was missing. Mad No wonder it felt like the barn door was open. It was 51 degrees inside this morning. So I got it replaced this afternoon.

The wood stove is the only heat source I have since the A/C people did not want to look at my heat pump since it is 34 years old. So I have a good supply of wood in the garage where I can split it further if I need too.

OH...the Fiskars splitting axe is the cats mellow.

You can find them at WalMart and Home Depot. It has a wedge in the middle and is sharp as an axe.

They put my kitchen pipes on the outside wall. I was able to place some insulation between the pipes and the header board by getting into the sump pump recess and pushing it in place with a stick. There still is about four feet I could not get too. So I leave the counter door under the sink open and the dishwasher door open so some warm air can keep it from freezing.

I have the shower pipes in the outside wall at one place. You can't even get to the faucets to replace the washers. What are some people thinking when they do this?

Meh. I was 0 degrees at 9am. I still had to walk 12 miles. Uphill. Against the Earth's rotation.

And deal with an idiot dog owner...

Minus 4 here this morning. I am thinking my home had a coal furnace in it when it was built.. it has been removed.. But I am all electric, and it is High. I think by burning some Coal I can help with bring some global warming back.

It's January 3rd and another day in the 40s up here at 10,000 feet.

We turned off the pellete stove today.

It's usually waist deep in snow and blowing hard while well below zero.

(Knock on wood) We have bare ground and open roads.

For those not used to the cold, the electric infra red heaters work well and are cheaper to run than the usual space heaters...

We just dropped to 50. Supposed to see 32. I have some baby mango trees outside that I need to cover. It sounds mild, but it's a tree killer!

Last year I bought an Envi wall heater as supplemental heat for my bedroom, which has 3 sides exposed, and was always 3°-4° colder than the main part of the house.

I have been very pleased with it, you can place your hand right above the heater on the wall, and the wall is barely warm.

I had been using an oil filled electric heater, the Envi is much better.

Mine ran about $100, and is one of the plug in units, took about 20 minutes to install.

I was watching the Peach Bowl on New Year’s morning. They said it was 1* in Atlanta for the parade that morning. I had not idea it could get that cold there.

For those worrying about freezing / bursting pipes, turn on a couple of faucets - just a little more than a trickle will help prevent them from freezing.
