Ive never considered a GMC truck. How are the new GMC and Chevy Duramax Diesel engines and overall reliability? I’ve been looking at the F250 Tremor with the new 7.3L gas but started looking at GMC. I’m looking for a balance between payload and towing. Thanks.

My best friend has a GMC 2500HD Denali edition, loves it. Pulls his 14’ dump trailer or a full size Yoder smoker with ease. I did drive it and it drives very nice. He has not had any major issues with it. That is the only comment I have for you. A few Sigs and some others

I have a 2017 GMC Denali HD Duramax and it's an absolute beast. I've had zero mechanical issues with it. The regen system is a bit of a pain in the ass for me because on occasion I don't put enough miles on it to allow the system to do it's thing so I end up driving it around until it finishes. I recently took it to the dealer for a software update that extended the regen from weekly to every two weeks for me. I considered trading it for the 2020 but the new model is to long and won't fit in my garage. Anyhow, mine rides great (even with the HD suspension) and is quiet and very comfortable on the inside. Depending on what you tow, take a look at the GMC 6.2L 10 speed half ton. If you regularly tow 8k lbs plus it's probably not enough truck but it's plenty of truck for most. ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

I've considered doing this but mine is paid off so I'm in no rush. NRA Life Patron

This is a generic response. But unless your load absolutely demands a diesel I think its crazy to get one. There is zero upside and substantial downside. I can expound on that from actual experience but it is simply the current facts. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Of the ‘big 3’, I’ve drifted to a Chevy/GMC guy. I used to do 3/4 tonnage, went to a 1500 two trucks ago. The most I tow is/was 3500 lbs, the 1500 is enough. Right now I have a 2017 CC, 60k miles, no problems. One thing is true, new full size trucks are serious coin, $40+k is the starting blocks.

Did you see this thread? https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...0601935/m/8840035374 It sounds like every current diesel is risky due to the fuel pump. I think I would stick with the gas engines. I traded my diesel F350 for my 2003 V10 F350 and have no regrets. But then it's only been 17 years.... ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

Starting in 2017, GM diesels went from the Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pump to a Denso high pressure fuel pump. So far so good. The GM Duramax, IMO, is the only diesel truck engine you can buy right now with the confidence that the pump will not self destruct causing $10K to $20K in damages. The Denso units seems to be very highly regarded. _____________ "I enter a swamp as a sacred place—a sanctum sanctorum. There is the strength—the marrow of Nature." - Henry David Thoreau

And then there is the issue is the Allison still a Allison now that GM is making it. I have a 16 Duramax. I am satisfied with it. But I have a lift pump and treat the fuel. I do all my own maintenance. Would ibuy another one, I'm not sure I would.

My truck is a 2018 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 SRA with the Duramax. I pull a 15,000b, 40 foot 5th wheel toy hauler with it. Have to say that the thing is an absolute beast. That duramax pulls that trailer with ease up the mountains. Prior to this truck I had a 2002 2500 3/4 ton with the 8.1/Allison combo. They that truck could pull a train, it was gear searching and sucking gas going up hills. Thought I would never get rid of the 8.1 but after towing with the Duramax, I wondered why I waited so long. The only issue I don’t like is it’s going thru DEF a lot faster after GM (recall) corrected a software issue in the computer. Another bonus the old truck didn’t have is the engine brake feature. It takes the white knuckle driving out of the Colorado grades. I’d say get the GMC. It’s a steep price to pay but worth it if you are doing some serious towing. This message has been edited.
