My experience is that wealthy folks aren’t likely to do that. Serious about crackers.

In my experience, growing up in the Hamptons, and coming from wealth, they're not brash, uncivil, or vulgar about it but it absolutely happens. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

indeed, in this case I was looking for both brevity and easy to understand. The language and methods are mostly different, however the effect is the same. I was using scare quotes in the post around the term to isolate the idea not the term. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

The "premise" is one have enough wealth to be able to "tell/speak" to "anyone/any circumstance" to "FO" and be able to cleanly walk away without concern. It is not about the money, it is about one's realization that no matter the cost, the one has the means, ability, desire and fortitude to simple "walk away". It does not grantee it will not be without consequence or impunity. The idea of "rich" and having "Fuck You Money" is a fantasy or imaginary desire, to see one's self able to "walk away", no matter what. It's not about the money, it's about the willingness to let everything unimportant fall from your open hands... "rich" is an illusion and bait in the trap. "Don't go towards the light!" When you have all the things that money can’t buy then you are truly rich! _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.

I’ve seen both ends of that spectrum. I watched someone buy the house right next to them and tear it down out of spite (beautiful home lakefront worth several hundred thousand) just to prove a point. I’ve also seen people I know are wealthy leave less than a 10% tip on a table with perfectly good service by the waitstaff. All that said, to me, rich means being able to retire without worrying about how you’re going to take care of all the bills for the coming years, taking trips when you’d like to places you long to go, eating out at nice restaurants when you’d like, and enjoying your family and friends! __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Most, not all of us will rarely know what wealth is. Is it a top 1% earner?

Do not recall seeing this here yet unless I missed it. There is a quote that goes something like this. Rich is being content with what you have.

Wealth is having enough value producing assets that you can accumulate additional assets from that income as well as support the lifestyle of your choice whatever that level of choice is. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

To add to several similar quotes, I will add my version: There is more than one kind of rich.

^^^^^ Agreed. But I believe the topic of this thread is money rich. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

Go tour the Vanderbilt estate or Hearst castle. Those mega wealthy people back before income tax. really had some ostentatious life. My first real job out of college was at a family wealth office. With multiple clients. Seeing the behind the scenes of the accounting and legal structure of those wealthy was wild. Every house every gulfstream goes into its own LLC. The trusts set up for each new baby or grandbaby born I think the average American can easily get to 2-5mm net worth excluding primary res through hard work and luck and good decisions and saving and investing. A bit more luck and maybe5-20mm new worth if your an executive of a public company or start a successful business The Bezos, Elon, Zuckerberg level of wealth is just beyond on the imagination of most people.

I consider myself wealthy but not because I have a lot of money or assets but because I have Jesus Christ in my life and He has blessed me to he content with what I have. My home is paid for Im in good health physically and mentally My retirement check plus SS meets all of my financial needs with plenty left over I get to travel a few times a year I own nice things So from my perspective Im wealthy Wealth or being rich isn't always about how much money you have in the bank, nothing wrong with having lots of money, but more about being content with what you have

I agree. I don't think I'd even want to have the incredibly complicated accounting and legal structure of those who are that wealthy. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Rich to me..well my health is my $$$$. You can have billions. If your health is in shambles what does it matter? So rich to me is God first and foremost, trying to be in his good graces. Then my health being excellent. Money would be 3rd on the priority list, and just having enough of it so I can do what I love to do. I’ve turned down money so many times in my life because it wasn’t worth the trade off. Rich is multifaceted/very complex. I would not want to look back at my life on a hospital bed, at end of life, where I spent all my time on acquiring financial wealth. For me only, I would have wasted my life. What am I doing?
