So what’s the big deal, right. If this was driven out, that was not an overnight drive. She (the driver) needed to plan where she could stop every 250-300 miles on the trip for a 3 to 5 battery charge - and she needed to know where those (the chargers) are. Plus, if she came across on the 8, she would need a charge in El Centro before the climb out of the desert. Seems like the added time to the drive is a few steps backwards. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I'm not a Tesla owner, however I believe the software in the car, allows you to plan a trip, to include charging station stops. Her drive time likely took a bit longer than a gas/diesel but, likely not too much longer. Tesla has 30,000+ of their super charging stations scattered around the country, a 30-45 min stop will get you fully charged, the majority of them are along major thoroughfares and popular destinations. Those mall and general use charging stations will take much, much longer.

And there’s also an App. My bosses wife has one. He’s a red blooded, American male’s male. He tells me that not only EV is coming for all of us at some point, but it’s actually pretty cool. She drives about 150 miles per day round trip. Operation last month cost them $80. First scheduled maint is at 100k. He is a former state trooper who is no stranger to driving fast and he says hands down it’s the fastest car he’s ever been in. He says the downside right now is over hyped.

Maybe not be what it seems. I just overnighted a new Oklahoma tag and Registration Form to a family car in Palm Springs. And, in the past, have moved a car to California from Oklahoma for one of our College Students. The car stayed there for a few years until Graduation and then left California. License plates, insurance and such were handled via UPS or FEDEX. You’ll see that around most any College campus.

Did not know about being less than an hour to charge. May ignorance never succeed. That 45 minutes could be a meal stop. Life moves pretty fast. My understanding is all Tesla Supercharging stations are only allowed in locations which have kept-up bathrooms and meal availability; I've seen upscale and complete gas stations and restaurants with their stations, but never seen one located at a dumpy, run-of-the-mill convince shop. Pull-over, plug-in, go take a dump, catch-up on emails/texts while eating a meal or, snack, grab a hot coffee and go. If someone allows their Tesla to run-out of 'juice' that's one them and its evidence they're a dumb-ass. There's plenty of alarms and navigation aides to point you in the direction of where to get charged and how much time/milage you have remaining. Like your GPS/mapping app on your smartphone, Tesla's are the same.

It’s probably a San Diego resident who also has property in TX. She registers the car in TX to beat CA’s high registration fees. I know folks in Orange County who do similar. Not right. And not enough cops to enforce the registration laws.

The potential problem is how long one may have to wait for the charger. We were on a road trip earlier this year and on a leg from Joshua Tree to Pahrump came across a little town that was only there for gas and food to an interstate (we were traveling perpendicular to the interstate) and saw a line of more than 30 Tesla’s parked along the curb. They were all waiting for a charger, despite there being at least 20 chargers. After gassing up with no wait we go tied on our lonely road. There be wasn’t much traffic headed opposite us, but nearly every one was a Tesla, obviously converging on that long line. EDIT: it was in Baker. And not to say I’m against Tesla, just an anecdotal story illustrating the infrastructure is still developing.

For the sake of observation, i tossed that as a possibility. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. "If dogs don't go to Heaven, I want to go where they go" Will Rogers The definition of the words we used, carry a meaning of their own...

Thing is, there’s a finite number of vehicles one charger can charge and if 60 minutes = the average time on the charger (from moving vehicle into place for receptacle to disconnect) then each charger can do 24 vehicles per day. Now we’re in the numbers of ‘elite’ vehicle owners on travel when gasoline is too expensive for the average person. Like democrats was gas prices to be. Life moves pretty fast. Talked to a Rivian ow er at the grocery store today. He told me he just got back from a trip to Pensacola. IIRC, 4 charge stops & about $60 for a 1100 round trip. 20-30 min to charge, per stop. Truck was really nice, but at >$70k, out of my car budget. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5, The Enemy's gate is down.

Saw one with Florida plates in Michigan. Definitely took either found a hotel or two with a charger or brought it on a flatbed. What happens when you get stuck in traffic and need the air conditioning or heat? How long can it run?

Only one Tesla charger in the Yoop. In Naubinway. Based on the size of Naubinway, I would guess that when a Tesla gets plugged in, everyone else's fuses blow. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Soooooo is she trying to Texas their Commiefornia?? "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. I'm sure if they got one from Texas it's because of the new 4680 battery. Here in Cali we will still get the 2170 battery out of Fremont, Ca. We won't see the 4680 till probably next year.
