There are a lot of Walmart "Great Value" products that are good quality national brand items, re-labeled for Walmart. Similar to Costco's Kirkland Signature products. Example of the latter, we buy Kirkland Signature K-Pod coffee; it's Green Mountain, packaged and labeled for Costco, at a reduced price. Same stuff, about 30¢ per serving when it's on sale.

For the record, any cocktail cherries that you're supposed to 'Refrigerate After Opening' are simply NOT in the same category as Luxardo Cherries!

Y'all convinced me and I ordered Luxardo cherries. I'm ate one straight from the bottle as well as I'm enjoying one in an Old Fashioned right now. Definitely top shelf and taste nothing like the cheap cherries on a sundae.

Same here. I had never had them until this thread. Huge difference.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but you need one big ice cube.

You want the ice to cut the bourbon a little, and dilute the sweet, but not melt quickly.

I like them sweet, so I’ll use woodford most of the time.

One orange wedge
4 dashes orange bitters
4 dashes angostura bitters
Dash of turbinado simple syrup
2oz bourbon
Large ice cube
Luxardo cherries

Orange goes in the glass, bitters on top, muddle.

In goes the ice, simple syrup, bourbon.

Stir with cocktail spoon 50 times.

Spoon in cherry and a little cherry syrup.

Probably too sweet for most bourbon drinkers, but no apologies.

Was out for wife’s birthday dinner and tried something I keep getting told I “just have to try”… a Tequila Old Fashioned.

Anejo Tequila, Agave Syrup, and Mole Bitters. Garnish with orange peel.

Was amazed at how good this was. I am now shopping for good tequila!

Walmart cherries?
Walmart Cocktail Cherries are all-natural Premium Cocktail Cherries, supplied by Traverse City Whiskey Company, packed in a simple syrup containing Traverse City Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

I'll have to look for these:

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Tried an “Improved Whisky Cocktail” circa 1900…

VERY tasty! Like an Old Fashioned, definitely in the same family, but the Marischino liqueur and spray of absinthe take it up a notch.

Not going to replace the Old Fashioned, but will get in the list for every once in a while!

Never purchased their jars of cocktail cherries in a store, but I can confirm that Traverse City Whiskey Company makes a damn good old fashioned in their cocktail bar in Downtown Traverse City, MI. Last fall, I was there about 2 months after the city's famous cherry festival (BTW, 2026 will be the 100th annual cherry festival).

Try this spin on an old fashioned. One of my favorite cocktails from my favorite restaurant.

The ALL’ ANTICA:

elijah craig bourbon
amaro della sacra
cocchi torino
angostura bitters
orange peel

I love amaro.
