I ordered a Trijicon SRO via on-line Sportsman Warehouse Store. My excitement was short lived once I opened the shipping box. Just by looking at the SRO, it didn’t look and feel right. The SRO I have on my Platypus looked a bit “rubbery”. The one that came today looked like shiny plastic. I then checked the serial number on the box vs. the serial number on the SRO. They do not match. Lastly, I cannot turn ON the RDS. This is definitely a FAKE item.

What is the BEST and RIGHT thing to do?

1. Just return it to a local store and dont say
Anything?

2. Call customer service and tell them what I discovered?

What if they accuse me of being the one that swapped the Original Item with a Fake Item?

I used their own Visa card to make the purchase. Do I call the Visa card first and report it to them?

I feel sick to my stomach. This item is not cheap. Frown

I read a postimg in Reddit from 2 years ago regarding this same problem.

I'm not sure how to resolve this specific issue, but in general SW has a 3-day limit of notification for things like returns.

Option 2. You are not the first who has to return bad merchandise.

I don't know what you mean in option 1, returning it to the local store. You bought it online, and it was delivered to your house, right?

He means return it to the local Sportsman’s Warehouse store.

Which is what I would do. I would go to the store and tell them the issue. Much easier to talk to people face to face.
If they don’t help you out (I bet they will as the one here has great CS) if not I would call Trijicon and I bet they would get involved. Their CS is also top notch.
Not their fault but they don’t want fakes floating around either and will likely put some pressure on SW.

Someone else has returned that to Sportsman’s and is enjoying the actual SRO.
SW will likely want to know it happened and possibly know who returned the bad one since it is a serialized part.

What Bible Verse did you get??????? I always wondered if the fakes had the Bible verses on them and if they stuck to the topic of light as Trijicon does.

The mismatched serials make me think you got an optic that someone bought and returned a fake in the real box. Really lame.

Trijicon serial number research can be done by Trijicon to prove the item is not real. Just return it to local store.

Half right. If you don't tell them the item is counterfeit, it could wind up getting sold to the next person.

I will go to the local Sportsman Warehouse store today and explain the situation to the store manager. I hope they help me out and send me a true SRO replacement optic. This is really concerning that something like this happen. A lot of dishonest people. Its a shame when we become a victim.

The first SRO I purchased from them, they have one In Stock at the store. Im
Still using that one on my other pistol. I ordered this recent one from their On-line store as they do not have one In Stock. I need another SRO for my new pistol. I was very excited, up until when I opened the package. Frown

Trijicon inscribes Bible verses (all referencing light) on their optics, except for specific government contract runs.

On the SRO it's 1st Corinthians 4:5, and the marking is located on the right side of the body by the windage adjustment:

If they have one counterfeit, they'll have more. They will know the truth. You shouldn't have to prove it.

I opened the box again this morning and took pictures of the optic from all sides, top and bottom. They sent me a really bad counterfeit optic.

It doesn’t have that bible reference.
It doesn’t have the same windage and elevation notches on the TOP and RIGHT side like on that picture. Th counterfeit one only have screw looking adjustment slot. This is really bad. I will try to add pictures tonight when I get home (I didn’t even notice those switches last night).

I hope Sportsman Warehouse makes this right.
I will be taking early lunch and drive to the store.

That really sucks.

Would you be willing to post pictures of the counterfeit item?

I like SW and have had nothing but good service and I think they’ll take care of you.

If not initiate a Credit Card chargeback with reason being that you got counterfeit goods and notify Trijicon as well.

SW will remedy it lickity split.

I think you got an air soft copy. That’s what it sounds like by your description. I’d be willing to bet, as has been said before, that SRO was returned to SW fraudulently. Think about how easy it would be. Buy an SRO and a 25.00 air soft copy. Substitute the copy into the genuine case. Return to SW service desk. Clerk doesn’t know squat about optics and is likely unaware of copies. Money back, item back to inventory, perp gets his genuine SRO for 25.00 minus the nifty case that no one cares about. I have six or seven of them that I haven’t opened in 15 years. It’s a pretty tight scam if you do it randomly and untraceably. Either way, you have your receipt, the counterfeit and case with mismatched serial number. If SW gives you grief, contact Trijicon directly. They are a top notch organization. Their reputation can be damaged by counterfeit products. They’ve taken care of me on a couple of occasions.

Clearly, some piece of shit returned a fake item after receiving an authentic sight from them. Whoever received it obviously failed in due diligence upon the return to verify the contents. I hope they make it right for you.

I would be glad to. That will serve as a warning to future on-line orders (not just with SW). This is the first time I have ever received a counterfeit item from on-line order.

(The box look legit. But it was missing some items, compared to the other SRO I purchased at Sportsman Warehouse local store in person. It didn't have that ORANGE plastic tag. The bag that holds the screw and allen wrench look old).

I just need to upload the pics from my phone to IMGUR. It looked really shady.

They have a return page online, you can do it via message or 800 number, might call them and explain the situation, offer to provide photo proof etc, they should make good of the situation.

Unfortunately, it happens all the time. Amazon is especially notorious for this (mainly due to size/scale), but they're far from the only ones.

Minimum wage return warehouse workers are never going to be an expert on every product. They'll give it a quick glance to ensure it looks roughly like the item it's supposed to be according to their system's product photo, flip it on to ensure it powers up, then check a box and it's on to the next product.

Nobody is giving it a detailed inspection to ensure it's not a counterfeit. So even bad copies make it through and back into inventory.

As a result, I avoid used/open box items from online retailers. But you can still get burned when the company tries to sell a previously returned item as New, as appears happened here.

I would definitely return it to either the store or the online store after letting them know of the problem.
I wouldn't just return it without letting them know, for a variety of reasons.
