I had it done over 20 years ago. I remember asking the Doc "are you sure it's numb down there"?
He held up a pair of these and said he was using them at the moment, and did I feel anything. That answered my question quite well.

Right? Chest hair being pulled out was awful for me too.

goose5Make sure you do the follow up in about 3 months to make sure. There have been some cases where the vas grows back together again.

Resurrecting this thread — I got a vasectomy on 8/21 — ten days later and recovery is going swell.
The whole process was much better / easier than I had anticipated.

OldMickI remember it well! Nothing like an injection in your scrotum to start the day. Oh wait, TWO injections!
That was thirty years ago. I'm sure the procedure is better today. Then again, maybe not.

specter77Many moons ago when I got clipped, the Doctor lifted up the piece of "plumbing" that he had removed. I am sure this was to assure me that nothing was connected any longer. That however was not the effect that it had on me.

I think I traumatized the nurse when she was explaining coming back in to give a sample.
I asked how "fresh" the sample needs to be? Like the night before fresh or parking lot before my appointment fresh? Her jaw dropped and said we have a room for that!
I never went back for the test. I told my wife I'm not going through the surgery again. So it didn't really matter.

urbanwarrior238In the pre-surgery meeting they stressed to me I had to shave the area very well as apparently hair can cause infection. Well I didn't want any of that so I shaved from my navel to my knees.
Day of surgery I jumped up on the table and laid down. The Nurse came over to get me prepped, pulled up my gown and immediately exclaimed, "whoa, nice shave job". And I never got an infection!

L A B O R for the wifie.
Back on topic I said not only NO but HELL NO when the subject came up with my ex. She ended up with a tubal ligation just after the birth of our last son. Better her than me and she was already on the operating table.
