Cheez-Its are their own food group, so they don't count.

I don’t eat a lot of crackers, but my wife has been buying “Classic Collection” which is from Kroger’s in-house brand, Private Reserve. There are four varieties in the box and a couple are pretty darn good with a cheese platter.

I agree that Cheez-Its are their own food group. And I say the same for Triscuits. Both are excellent, but I don’t consider either of them to be “ordinary” crackers.

My favourite ordinary crackers: I’m toggling between Kellogg Club and Original Ritz. Can’t decide…

After many A vs. B comparisons, I settled on Kellogg Club (Original) as the best “ordinary” cracker, beating out Ritz and Keebler Townhouse. I’ve been buying them exclusively for about six months.

But something odd is going on. My stores have (post COVID shortages) always had plenty in stock. But three weeks ago, on my weekly shopping trip to Kroger, there were none available. Odd, but no problem, I thought. My daily walks often take me by another grocery that carries them so I’ll just get some there.

I did go into that other grocery. And, by God, they didn’t have any either. WTF, I’m thinking. But they did have a (very) few boxes of Kellogg Club (Multigrain). I really like the Kellogg Club (Original), so had never tried the Multigrain variety. But given the odd circumstances, I decided it would be prudent to get a box of the Multigrain while the getin’ was good, so I did. And, to my surprise, I really liked ‘em. Possibly even better than the Original – time will tell.

They’re a LOT different than the Original, but at least as tasty (to me). The Original variety have a buttery taste. The Multigrain variety aren’t buttery, but are slightly salty and slightly sweet. Also, the Multigrain are more toasted than the Original – a plus in my book. And the Multigrain are a bit crispier than the Original – another plus.

After three weeks the supply situation remains spotty, but now I’m happy if I find either the Original or Multigrain in stock.

BTW – Other advantages of the Kellogg Club crackers (both varieties):
* Fewer broken crackers than any other kind.
* They store more compactly (more oz/in^3) than any other kind, as a result of their rectangular shape.

Club crackers are good, I keep a box of the "snack Stack" ones in the pantry, mostly for the finicky teen that will either eat a whole box in one week or not touch them for a few weeks. I eat a few here and there

The last time buying them a couple of weeks ago, they were out at Kroger but had some way up on the top shelf, this is when being over 6' comes in handy

Although I'm fond of Ritz crackers and Triscuits, I seldom buy them because they are Nabisco products and I boycotted them when the company was bought out by R. J. Reynolds (tobacco company)--I wasn't happy to have a tobacco firm producing food. I began buying Zesta saltines--they're perhaps not quite as good as Nabisco's, but they are good enough to put in soup and to spread PB on--the major ways I use crackers. I don't just snack on crackers (but I do occasionally just squirt French's yellow mustard on them and eat them that way. Sometimes I cut round bologna slices into quarters and put them between crackers with yellow mustard, too.

I don't have the refined palettes that you guys do, I guess. For salty snacks I eat peanuts, potato chips (plain!) or unbuttered popcorn.

I tried Carr's Table Water crackers long ago. I didn’t particularly like their flavor. That’s just personal preference, but objectively they’re too big for me to comfortably put a whole one in my mouth. If I bite off a piece, then broken pieces and crumbs. So not for me.

Long time since I’d tried Carr’s Table Water crackers, so I bought another box yesterday. Result: same less than great experience as before.

I’m sticking with Kellogg’s Club for ordinary crackers. Cheez-Its for flavored crackers.

Triscuits are great too, especially the Smoked Gouda flavor, but they don’t fit my definition of cracker.

I've come to enjoy Pipe Smoker 'Cracker Zen Friday' as yet another of the endless unexpected treats of Sig Forum.

I like my crackers straight.
