Relocating was expensive, but the pay was better. More important, I felt appreciated for the first time in years. My wife says that's all I talk about--being appreciated.

Amazing how much a difference that makes.

Bean, nice one on the new gig!

So without quoting a bunch of people...

When I resigned, I was trying to be humble. I had stated “I’m just not a good fit” when the owner asked me why I was leaving. She persisted with “why”, I hesitated and she then asked “is it me?”, to which I replied “I doubted you would have me her to the first of the month, so yeah, I’ll be honest. It’s all you. I have never felt welcome. You hired me for my experience, and have gone out of your way to make sure I am not included in the implementation of the inventory system, even though I have implemented these systems in a company, three different times, a company that does nightly in sales and picks, what you do in a year. You promised a pay raise, you neglected to give that to me based on performance, and refused a performance review. You say our priorities aren’t aligned, however my priorities are the employees and their safety and health. You may be unaware of this, but your employees are your most valuable asset. Without them, you don’t have a business. So while their safety isn’t your priority, it certainly is mine.”

She was petty shocked. She apologized, and said she wished it had worked out. She also asked if my new job was carved in stone, or is there a possibility I may stay. I replied it’s carved in stone as hard as the Ten Commandments.

We had a pretty good discussion after that and I think she actually listened to me for the first time in many months.

So aside of that, yeah, I’m really excited for the new opportunity. It’s going to be fantastic. I just have so many ideas of things to improve from what I have seen. I want to speak with the managers there and get their insight on how to improve things. I want to work with these people as a team, and I am chomping at the bit to do so.

I am happy I have almost two weeks, as I want to reread the boom called “The Servant”. It helped me years ago when I took over the Harbor warehouse. I’m certain I’ll remember a few things I have forgotten since then.

Thank you all for your support. I was so happy to share this with everyone here!

Yeah, I still have to suffer through the next eight business days. Friday the first is my last day.
The last 16 hours has felt like 80.

Congrats on the new position. All that I can add is that you were wise to move on. If it is bad enough that you are on the hunt things will not change despite promises that they will. If you had stayed within a short time you would be right back in the same place except that having to start all over again to find a new position.

And if it is a "small world" in your job community it may be assumed although incorrectly the only reason you went in search of new employment was to use it as a bargaining chip with your present employer to get a raise. Once that gets around it is hard to live that down. Speaking from experience.

So fast forward about three years…

Things have been quite fantastic here at MHW. Many if you have supported us through the restaurant shutdown during Covid, which is very much appreciated.

The two managers I started with are no longer there. One was moved into a more fitting position, worked it two years and retired. The other manager was pretty awesome, but she passed away from lung cancer.

There was one guy who filled the first position for a couple years. He is no longer with us. I have finally been able to bring onboard a guy I worked with at the company I left in the original post. He’s a solid guy with years of management experience. He’s a good human and he has patience. I think he will be a solid asset to our team, and a great leader for our repacking department. He will be starting next Monday.

The other position was filled by a wonderful young lady who has worked for MHW for 15 years. (She replaced the lady that passed away). She has been doing a fantastic job and I am very happy to have her in this position.

I have made many changes at this company, most all of them have been very good changes. Increases in productivity, huge boosts in morale (morale is higher than it has ever been and has been this way for a couple years) employee retention is high, and sourcing new employees has been pretty good. Everyone operates as part of one team with the same goal. People help each other.

I found a place that values me and my contributions. They compensate me fairly. They give me autonomy and allow me to run their business operations.

I figured it would be good to update all of you on something positive.

Noah,

Your update is welcome and appreciated. Many strive to find harmony, value, and satisfaction in their toils to put bread on their family's table. But most do not attain such despite their best efforts. You have succeeded and are thankful for the blessings.
Well done and Enjoy!
