Gone but Together Again. Dad & Uncle |
I've never come close again, but, we had a Honda Accord that I put Michelin MXV3 tires on when the originals wore out. We put an absolutely amazing 109,000 miles on those tires. Granted I regularly rotate, check the pressure, balanced them, but still, 109,000 miles is unreal!

And yet I thought I was the only one who got excited for new tires. Definitely changes the character of the vehicle when you get new tires on. I had a 2003 Corvette Z06 that was modified. I think rear tires typically lasted me around 8,000 miles _____________

Unfortunately they don't make these in a large, SUV size - like 265/45/20 for my Passport. At least not yet. I have them on. Got them mounted and balanced at a really nice garage just 2 miles down the road. They balanced them good but, I had to make a trip back down as the nice fella mounted 1 front tire inside out. What a nice improvment to the ride. A good looking tire they are. 3 Were made at the end of 2019 and 1 at February 2020. Havn't had them out on the interstate yet.

Forgot, the guy set a Snapon electronic torque wrench at 76 foot pounds and torqued all lug nuts. I was very pleased with that.

I've been cornering on 2 wheels in my all-seasons. Still going strong. Sure, they won't make 60k miles. But they've definitely lasted longer than 10 or 15k in summer performance tires. I love the smell, the look, and driving on new tires. Enjoy yours!

I put a set of Coopers on my truck, I was disappointed in the amount of wheel weights that had to be used to balance it. No wear report yet. __________________________ Keep your rotor in the green The aircraft in trim Your time over target short Make it count

Tomorrow I will get a few miles at highway speed to see how they roll.

Depends on your roads. I'd set them at at least 37 p.s.i. Feb 2019 I took my truck General Grabber tires pretty high. 42-45 or so. Because I was taking a trip and leaving the truck on the street. Didn't want issues. I've lost a few pounds in the 2200 miles driven over the last year. But with all the potholes plus infrequent driving, my thinking is that higher pressure is a good thing. I sacrifice "comfort", but it's all relative. The '08 Subaru, I set the Michelin Defenders at 40 lbs for a cross-country drive this past February. With weather conditions all over the temp range, I like extra pressure. Plus lower rolling resistance. Getting my oil swapped upon return, my buddy remarked, "You had too much pressure in your tires. I brought it down to 35#". But at DT in Tempe the guy says he runs 40# in his Subie all the time. So go figure.

I had thought about running them at 38 to 40 PSI. That term rolling resistance I like. At 35 psi they ride very soft. Probably not a world of difference if I go up to 40. They seem fine on the interstate.

Thank you Very little |
Get a nice air pressure check tool, the key to the 80K is maintaining proper pressure, and rotating the tires on a regular basis. A good measure is to rotate them when you change the oil as a habit, this way it's not forgotten. keep a close eye on the front end alignment, if you've not had one done, it's not a bad idea to have a good shop check the alignment since the tires have just been mounted. Tires are one of the most expensive parts of maintaining a vehicle and a lot of folks look right past them...

Thank you HRK. I have a pretty good tire pressure gage. Guy had them down at 30 and 32 psi. The post above about extra wheel weights is quite true. Its a sign they dont give a damn about doing it right. Mine too has the new weights on in sort if a funky pattern. They had 1 tire mounted inside out. This is why I cant stand not being right there at the machines when they mount and balance. I watched yesterday from 60 feet away. They made cell video of all 4 on zero. Still a bit sloppy on weight installation.

Yes, big difference. Five pounds higher will definitely make it steer easier. You’ll think something was replaced in the front end. If they are soft at 35 pounds I’d get them to 42 pounds. I set mine the same all around but shops often set the rears two pounds lower.

Thank you Woodman. I set them right on 40 psi this morning. I will check them weekly and especially as the Summer temps go up. Oil changes are @ 5,000 miles so then is a good time for rotation.

You bet. I got serious about tires in the late '00s driving 40k per year as Road Warrior Sales. Feb 2019 I set the truck at 45#. By the end of the year they had slipped 3-4 pounds. Put them back at 45#, only because I'm so infrequently driving the truck, my thought is that the pressure will help prevent the tire from shaping itself flat (there is probably a French word for that issue, but it eludes me). With the heat they were 46-47# at the weekly trip's start. That is 5 ½ months after I set them. I'm happy there is no leakage around the rims. I'll probably bring them down to a uniform 45# hot (after driving) next sunny drive day. If I drove at 50# for a long time, I hear the center of the tread will wear wrong. They are 2017 tires, so I'll be swapping them out in a little bit, before the tread wears out. Love new tires. Mo' grippy. Two rims are out-of-true. They are "hoppy", in tire parlance, and if up front make a gentle "thup-thup-thup-thup-thup" sound as I come to a stop. So I leave them in back and do not currently rotate.
