So I had my head completely up my butt apparently and backed right into a parked car last night. I had to be driving our Lexus GX460 of course, not my 19yo 4Runner.Roll Eyes It appeared that it only involved my rear bumper but I’m currently at the Lexus body shop and they say I pushed in the quarter panel some. What I thought was going to be a bumper replacement is turning into *alot* bigger job. We’ve had this GX for about two years, one previous owner and a totally clean CARFAX.. no body work, until now. Other fella was very kind considering I hit his car. Totally my fault, no excuses. Just mad at myself.

That's a bummer, love the GX & would definitely drive one if the budget allowed.

The new ones, with the off-road pkg Eek
Especially in green.

I'm on the hunt for something new, after last night's events, likely not a GX, unless it was a really older one.

Yeah, the GX is as solid as they come. Mines an ‘18 with the V8. Not really a fan of the new turbo V6 engines

Sorry, as a precaution, I back up slowly when in a parking spot. If able, I like the pull through, no backing up required.

Years of dealership & O&G life has conditioned me to backing in everywhere possible.

Shit happens with vehicles. It really sucks and I know the pain. You just have to fix it, pay the fiddler (body shop), and move on. What’s done is done.

Years ago I backed into a car at our marina's parking lot. Totally my fault but the owner's wife went ballistic. She was drunk and ranted for at least 20 minutes, all kinds of threats. I gave the owner my info told him to get a quote and I'd give him cash. The next week the lady came to me and apologized, was very contrite, the owner told me to forget about it. Soon after they moved to another marina.

Been there. It's worse when it's your fault because there's nobody else to blame.

The only new gadget in vehicles that I am in favor of is backup cameras. They've saved me money a couple of times in recent years. Sometimes I cringe at how many times over how many years I just threw it in reverse, checked the mirrors, and hit the gas. Even with a truck with a topper which negates the rearview mirror...just go...it'll be fine. Yeesh. Big Grin

I backed my then-fairly-new Toyota Tundra into a tree, putting a hollow spot in the bumper, out of a space that I'd backed out of hundreds of times before.

Came home and found our cul-de-sac crowded with emergency vehicles (neighbor found her husband in the garage where he had hung himself when his business went down the drain). Police car sitting in my usual approach to my driveway. Not blocking the driveway itself, but making access awkward.

2001 GMC 3500 with 12' cargo box had no backup camera, no rear window, just sideview mirrors. I backed it into my wife's pristine Escape hybrid.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

Hey I had nothing to do with it!

sucks, but here's the thing, they'll fix it and you'll not even notice or think about it. you'll lose a little re-sale but the GX being an off-roader and you being 2+ owner it'll likely end up with a off-roader guy who'll mod it anyhow when the time comes.

Similar story…

I was in a rush going to work about 5 years ago and backed out my brand new Jeep Gladiator…right into my F-350 that was parked in the corner of my driveway.
To top it off I had just switched insurance carriers and when I called it in my agent said that Erie has a policy not to ding you on the first claim and he was able to get this treated as one claim even though it involved two vehicles. My insurance stayed the same the next year..

At least your head wasn't as far up your butt as the guy who backed his box truck with lift gate in the lane of traffic and Totaled my pristine Volvo. (The headlight assemblies are $3000..each)
