A minor rant, for sure....

Two months ago, my Home Depot card bill was $45.16. I fat-fingered the payment (and I'll take full responsibility for the goof) and paid $45.46. The next month's statement showed a $0.30 credit, as it should have. I didn't buy anything there that month. This month's statement just arrived... my 30-cent credit showed, plus a new 30-cent "adjustment," bringing my balance to zero.

Zero balance... good. Hey, wait! Where'd my 30 cents go?

No, I don't expect HD to send me a check -- that'd be stupid. But neither do I expect them to create a bogus "adjustment" so as to clear the liability from their books and allow them to pocket my [pocket] change.

It's just 30 cents. But doggone it, man, it was MY 30 cents. If I had shorted them 30 cents, they'd have charged me interest! (And probably would have figured some way to pin an additional fee onto it as well.)

Guess who gets to spend some time on the phone tomorrow? Grrr.

Yes, my time is worth more than that, but principles have value too.

God bless America.

You can damn well bet if you had a 30 cent balance and missed a minimum payment they’d hit ya with a $30 fee and ding your credit score.

These go to eleven.

Fuck that adjustment. I would ask them to send you a check.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Read your terms…

“We treat a credit balance as a balance of zero”

It’s in there. Prevents them from having to issue checks.

I had a $50.00 credit balance with them last summer from a flooring job they did for me.

They sent me an email and called my cell and a left a message for me to come to the store and get a refund.

OTOH, there's a huge difference between $50.00 and 30¢

Yeah, I'm wondering if there is some dollar amount that policy applies to. Like, less than $1 or something.

These go to eleven.

They shouldn’t need to send a refund check. Just keep the credit balance on the account, and it gets used up when you next use the card. I usually round up my all payments to the next dollar, mostly because once I transposed the cents (bill was for something like $58.54 and I sent check for $58.45). Got a nice $5 service charge on my next bill for the 9 cent mistake. I have an Amex card that carried a 1 cent credit for months.

This, exactly. Don't send me a check, just put the 30 cents back on my account. It'll get spent next month -- heck, it'll probably get spent this week.

And frayedends is right -- evidently if there's an overage of less than a dollar, they just pocket it and laugh. Roll Eyes

It's easier to make an "adjusting entry" and take away my credit balance than it is to just leave the credit balance sitting there? Confused

They probably have to send monthly statements with any balance, negative or positive. I have a home depot card I seldom use. I do not receive a statement when there is no balance.

Banks do this sort of thing as well. Of course our wonderful Federal goverment sends out checks for four cents. Medicare sent his mother a refund in that amount.

HD are the same dumbasses that tried to tell me there was a national currency shortage during the initial months of the lovely 'two weeks' to flatten the curve.

I have significantly curtailed my shopping there ever since. I found a true value hardware store that actually still resembles one inside and I go there now.
