A little bit late, but congrats on a well-deserved promotion and acknowledgement of your value.

Nice to see things work out, even if it's rare, and good people are noticed

That's great news Ronin, happy for you.

Several references to prayer in the thread and it can certainly help figure out if it is time to leave or not. One year into my career I took a job that was a bit over my head, I knew it, my boss knew it and my client knew it, but they had fired 2 guys in 2 years and couldn't find anybody else. I held the job together, stressed out as heck working 70 hours a week. A year later they found someone with 10 more years experience to come in above me, that was fine, but he brought his friend with him from out of state and moved me out.

My company and boss's boss liked me though and moved me to a new location 3 blocks away at a M-F, 9 to 5 at the same salary. I had taken the move as an insult and started looking for a new job and left 2 weeks later. I realized I was leaving in a bit of a huff, but moved on anyway. In hindsight I don't know if it was the right move or not, you learn things both ways. Oh, the jerk that I had to move out for? He got fired for theft 2 years later, so karma!

The next company I stayed at 17 years. I got multiple promotions and regular raises. There were a few times I thought I can't work for this guy, but I outlasted the a**holes several times. The big jerks tend to piss of lots of people and sometimes get run off. I have made 4 phone calls to find work since 1997, God has been looking out for me.

All's well that ends well. Congrats on the promotion.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congratulations on both the promotion and for hopefully leaving the past in the rear view mirror.
