I have a package that was supposed to be delivered today on the West Coast. It started out in El Paso on Thursday, went into New Mexico, then back to El Paso in the next 24 hours. It then went to Albuquerque, NM then to Aurora, CO on the next day, then was last seen in Atlanta, GA on Sunday. Now moving through the network. I don't think it will be here today . . . .

What I want to know is how they knew that I was IN Atlanta yesterday - flew in late last week for a function, then drove over into South Carolina overnight. Back to Atlanta on Sunday, then flew home today.

UPDATE 9/23 - package shows that it is back in Aurora - probably sent back for them to correct (at least. that is what I'd do).

UPDATE 9/24 - package is now at my local distribution center!! Shows it will be delivered by tomorrow evening! I'll wait and see if it takes another detour.

I wish they could hire people that had half a brain. The person that delivers our mail as lucky as she can find her own backside.

Sent a First-Class letter (checks in the mail) out of Wichita 8/27 going to Hudson KS, 100 miles away. Purposefully took it to the Post Office so it would go out that day rather than let it wait until the next morning for our mail carrier to pick up. Recipient tells me today that it finally arrived, 10/2. 34 days to go 100 miles. What a screwed-up system. Did not have tracking on it so have no idea the convoluted route it took.

Here is my worst USPS experience...

A couple years ago, I had an online vendor not disclose they were drop shipping from China instead of the vendor's East Coast location. The package made it from China to San Fran to Houston USPS processing (~10 miles from my house) in 4 days. Very reasonable.

Then, the USPS roller coaster began and each step below is 1 to 2 days.
  • Houston --> dyslexic version of my zip code which is about 90 miles away
  • dyslexic version of my zip code --> Houston
  • Houston --> correct zip code post office
  • correct zip code post office --> Houston
  • Houston --> Chicago (this was a big WTF for me)
  • Chicago --> China (this caused me to empty my wallet into the swear jar)

I'm signed up for USPS Informed Delivery which means I have a profile with them that includes my e-mail address and phone number. The system was sending updates at each step. The asshats could have easily held it at the correct zip code post office for me to pick up rather than shipping back to China. At least 10x per week, I drive within 1.5 miles of that post office so stopping by would have been a hell of a lot less hassle than dealing with the vendor once it arrived back in China (turned into a shit show and had to get my credit card company involved).

Had a package sent to me from Sarasota FL last week. I’m on the east coast of FL, so it’s coming from literally the other side of the state. Checked tracking this morning and it went from Sarasota to a distribution center in Ybor City (near Tampa), which I understand it going to a hub in FL, and then it got sent to St. Paul MN. WTF? Was supposed to be delivered today, but that’s obviously not happening.

Well, late to the party here.

October 14th, small (AR-15 front sight post) left Crestview Fl. Arrived and departed Pensacola Fl on October 14th. Arrived in Jacksonville Fl October 15th.

Left Jacksonville Fl on October 16th. Arrived in Tallahassee Fl on October 16th, left Tallahassee and arrived in Detroit Mi (50 odd miles from me) October 18th. Departed Detroit on October 19th enroute to Indianapolis. It has now arrived at a SECOND Indianapolis facility as of today and still there as of 8:34 P.M.

If they trucked this envelope via I-94 to I-69 it got within twenty miles of me to the south. If it went via I-96 to I-69 it passed my city and post office by one mile to the south.

I’m just off I-96, about midway between Detroit and Lansing. Literally if conditions are right I can hear the traffic on 96.

IF it ever shows up, I’m willing to bet it doesn’t arrive until sometime next week.

I’m just shaking my head at this alleged efficiency……

    OTOH
My 80+ mom and I went on a brief (3 day) trip across the country by plane recently.
It was a 2+ hr ride to the airport. We arrived with an hour to get through security and board our flight. While parking, she realized she didn’t have her id or cc with her (Insert massive blood pressure spike here).
Once we battled our way through security due to the kindness of TSA and arrived at our destination, she called dad and sent him to the post office with her items. I yelled in the background to go Brown or FedEx.. but damned if that usps package didn’t show up the next day.
I stood corrected, and my dad was the hero!
