Why?

We managed to find and rescue an esteemed USAF officer. It was an amazing operation. But, why would we disclose assets, technology, operational units, time to fly operational units from A to B, the agencies involved, the strengths of each agency for the specific mission, how we obscured the truth, how we verified the identity of the injured officer, etc.????

We are fighting a war with an inept and incompetent third world country. The next war will be with Russia and China. Now they know about our capabilities. Why did we tell them?

National aggrandizement is of little value. Personal aggrandizement is of even less value.

Don't underestimate your enemy. They are neither inept nor incompetent.

That's the "official" story

We have no idea if that was anywhere actually near what happened

It could all be a ruse for the next time someone goes down in Iran

Agreed plus all the negativism about our armed forces. Remember when all the so called experts were saying we would have at least 10k casualties when we invaded Iraq and how they were supposed to have one of the most formidable armies in the world?

We could spread mis-information like this every day and have Iranian forces scrambling all over the place looking for our downed pilots. We could also have some fun with the news media as well. Big Grin

My concern is with the rat bastard who leaked the exact location of the downed pilot to Iran. He should be executed.

Not the first time that it’s happened, not gonna be the last either.
People need to be held accountable for their actions.
“But Im just a reporter”
Hang that fucker for Treason just like anyone else.

Look at Jerry Rivers (aka Geraldo Rivera) and his bullshit.
The very beginning of Operation Gothic Serpent (Somalia- Aug 1993) reporters we’re waiting at the exact landing spot on the beach when the SEAL Team came ashore.

According to this article, the FBI arrested the leaker, a former SOCOM employee. One hopes that justice will prevail.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

That leaker was involved in another leak, not the one concerning the WSO in Iran.

^^^^^. I watched a video recently about that. It seems that a loyalist near Trenton saw our Army marching towards Trenton that night in front of his house. He snuck out his back door and rode to where the Hessian commander was staying. He/they were up late drinking and playing cards and didn't want to see the loyalist. So, a note was written describing what he saw, with instructions to give it to the commander. He put it in his pocket without reading it.

Had he read it, Washington's plan surely would have failed.

Providence, or simple hubris by the Hessians?

Disclosing “the bomb” by setting it off over Nagasaki is way, way different than saying “we’re building a bomb that’s going to take out entire cities!”. Kind of a “yeah, look what we got!” Moment.

Way, way, WAY more different is some little rat-fuck leaking secrets about how we are making the bomb, how big of a bang this bomb is gonna make… then some twatcicle from the press publishing it all over the place.

I keep my cynical trust in the fact that DARPA is likely working on stuff 20 years ahead still.

Really hate that billions are funneled to it with no oversight, but we'll always have surprises in store.
