I have often defended the USPS. Where I live, we love our letter carrier and our small post office.

Where I work is a whole other subject. The 45241 Post Office, while they have gotten better, still has a loooooooooooooong way to go.

However, this is not about any local Post Offices.

Last Friday, I mailed my FL Concealed Weapon or Firearm License renewal form back to FL for processing.

Mailed on Wednesday 03.19.25 from the Cincinnati area.

Due to the nature of the contents, including fingerprints and a personal check, I sent it Priority Mail, so I could track it and be sure it arrived. I gladly paid the $11.00 for this service.

Here is the actual tracking from USPS, from bottom to top.

Look, I get it. There could be a perfectly legit reason for it taking over a week to arrive.

I am a reasonable person and I hope they can explain it today. I tried calling early today, but there is no one there to take a call until 8:00 am.

C'mon USPS, be better.

So, how is your day going?

Rant off.

They have destroyed any chance of timely delivery with the creation of these sorting and separate processing facilities. They seem to be like a "Hotel California".

I ordered some parts from BKings in Ohio on 3/17. The parts shipped on 3/18, arrived in Alabama on 3/21 at my local delivery hub, then went to Kansas City and sat for a few days. Then back to Alabama, and were delivered on 3/26.

The box label was not damaged / defaced / or other, which IMHO would have caused a mis-read of the delivery address.

Who knows? At least I got my stuff (this time). Last Fall, a member on another forum sent me some things in a small package from Wisconsin. They never arrived. Then in early February, he got an email from USPS that the missing package was being delivered back to him. So far he hasn't gotten it.

I spoke with a very nice lady.

She asked if I could have written down the address incorrectly.

Um, no, I used the pre-printed envelope from the State of Florida.

She was very apologetic and did give me a case number and told me someone higher up than her would reach out to me.

look I get it. If this is the biggest problem of my day, week or month, I am the luckiest person here, it's just frustrating when you pay extra for a service and they don't deliver.

Postal service has some serious problems, since COVID the reliability has gone done for our KY office, everything comes through Louisville and we've had more lost payments in two years than in 20+ in business...

It could be worse...

I've had a package sitting at 30268 for over a month now.

Those goofy bastards in Palmetto, Ga. are protesting the idea of privatization by telling us what an awesome job they are doing.

Think of the money USPS could have made by delivering Amazon packages. Instead, they failed to meet service level agreements, and Amazon created their own postal service equivalent. As well as a seamless return experience process.

I printed out my tracking history and took it up to my PO . The clerk said she would turn it over to her Manager and somebody would call me in about an hour . That was about 90 minutes ago .

The guy finally called . He said that it's possible that what's being scanned is not the package itself but the container that the package is supposed to be in . If it's in the wrong container then the tracking info is not accurate . He said he is pretty sure they will receive it today and hopefully we will get it tomorrow or Monday . I am not optimistic. I think all of that was bullshit .

I've had several gripes about the USPS over the years. Here's the latest.

I mailed payment for an item on Monday at 1 PM. Mailed it priority mail so I could get a tracking number. 12 hours later it was tracking at a larger post office 10 miles away from where I mailed it. Snce that time it has said on its way to its destination. The original estimate was that it was supposed to be delivered by 9 PM yesterday.

The destination is about 1400 miles from the post office where it was last tracked. It has been 88 hours or so since it last updated. That's an average delivery speed of about 16 mph. We're approaching the point where I could've just ridden a bicycle and delivered a quicker than the post office. I expect before it's all said and done, and it is actually delivered (assuming that it actually will be delivered... and that is a 50-50 assumption on my part) that the average travel speed will fall to a comfortable walking pace.

I hope, oh how I hope, that they close out this inefficient, expensive, and likely, corrupt institution and privatize it. Can't happen soon enough in my opinion.

Yesterday I was given a case number and told someone would call me today.

They called this morning to let me know it was out for delivery today.

I did receive a text this afternoon, that it was delivered.

Mailed a week ago Wednesday and delivered today.

C'mon USPS, be better.

Congratulations! Glad your issue was resolved (isn't it sad that we offer congratulations when the USPS does its job?!!)

As for my delivery, it's been 6 days now with no update on progress. I can't inquire until tomorrow. I'm the meantime the delivery pace is down to an almost pedestrian 9 miles per hour.

I truly expect it will be to 3-4 mph average speed before it's delivered. IF it is delivered. Fucking USPS.

I was told by a waitress whose brother works at the post office in the big city that

35% of the applicants are not qualified for positions, and another 35% won't do the work.

The over qualified work where they pay better.

She thinks it's going to get way worse.

Our local, in-town post office is actually a "sub-office" of a bigger one (same ZIP code).

Yesterday the smaller one was closed. Why? Because at the main office, precisely zero-- none, not a single one-- of their usual 5-6 clerks showed up for work.

Our clerk, who shows up every day and does a fantastic job-- all by herself-- was pulled over to the main post office to stem the bleeding. In terms of "weeks that'll make her retire," this is likely high on the list.

That's kinda how things are here. Our local staff are fantastic and reliable. The only time I've ever had any problems with delivery is when we've had a sub, and I'm willing to extend some grace in those situations. The biggest problem with the USPS is the large urban distribution centers not being run efficiently and losing stuff for days.

I'm currently waiting on a package that was supposed to get here today, but tracking says it's still at a distribution center in Kansas City. For the past few months the distribution center in Indy has been a debacle, too. Stuff gets stuck there for a week or more with no rhyme or reason as to when it's going to make it out.

I'd still take the USPS any day over FedEx, though, especially FedEx Ground.

My brother in waiting for a renewed ID to deliver. Tracking shows it has been forwarded from the main post office to the next, for over 30 days now. The main post office made the news for a massive backlog of mail. They claim it’s all taken care of now. I guess that means they sent it all to the landfill.
Between this and the license offices, what has happened to what was pretty functional government services?

I've been waiting on a P229 parts kit from eBay that was supposed to get here today. When I went on my mailbox, I found this:

That's an empty box without my $440 of gun parts in it Mad. And it didn't just happen on its own, either. Some scumbag at the USPS cut that open with a knife, ripped it the rest of the way open, and took the contents. It has to be an employee. Nobody else would have had access.

I question why they even delivered it in this condition...it was obviously cut open and missing the contents. Why not flag it as missing/damaged immediately and open an investigation?

I tried calling the USPS but their phone menu system is a nightmare and when I finally got through the wait for a rep was unreasonably long. Their website says either the recipient or the sender can fill out a lost or missing package claim, but you need the original shipping receipt to do it, so I'm not sure how the receiver is going to provide that.

I contacted the seller on eBay and have yet to receive a response. I also filled out a mail theft claim on the postal inspector's website, which I'm sure will go nowhere. I think my best bet at this point is going to be making a claim through eBay, but I have to wait three days before I can do that.

I am beyond pissed right now. I was really looking forward to getting those parts. I've been making plans for them all week...heck, I even started a thread in the pistols section about an optic choice. I also spent a lot of money on them that I could have used for a lot of other things right now instead of supplying some POS thief in a USPS uniform with a nice set of gun parts. Mad
