Well yesterday I reached a milestone. I blocked and unfriended someone who I’ve known since 1968/69, sister of a late friend. First time I’ve ever done that except for a work related group at a prior employer. I never wanted to mix work with non work despite never saying negative, third party interpretations and such.

Left leaning Democrat as her late husband was. Works for a federal agency. Very vocal is her dislike of anything but the hard party line. As normal, distorts facts and hopes that everyone will go along with her memes, prior to yesterday her favorite one is how women were held down prion to the mid 70’s, couldn’t get credit, have a checking account, rent or buy a house or car without a male co-signer. All bull****, called her out on that and I was told that I was mistaken, that’s how things were. Hmmm, seems I saw things a bit different as my mother was widowed at forty, I was fifteen and I don’t remember us sleeping on the street and hitchhiking because we had no car. And my going up north and her giving me a gas credit card to use that was in her name, don’t think it was a counterfeit card as she would gripe at me “Look at this bill!” And while she did ultimately remarry her new husband dealt for many years with the backlash of a failed business so between the two of them her credit was probably better than his for many years.

Second to last skirmish on FB was about the postal service and how more than once a package has been bounced back and forth between three hubs before it got here. All I said was “maybe they need to look into it” and I was told it was because Trump got rid of automated sorting, I quoted articles that said those were First Class Letter sorters that there were problems with and not packages. Not to mention that the Postmaster General was a Trump appointee he was with the Biden Administration for four years. Of course I was told that I was spreading propaganda which I rebutted. Being called a propagandist really started but I ignored it.

Well yesterday I referred to the new book co-authored by Jake Tapper, “Original Sin” about the coverup by the WH of Biden’s decline. And my comment “I’ve ordered mine already” started a tirade which suddenly became a personal attack on my family, life decisions, financial decisions, etc. was told that I “haven’t said an intelligent word” (a direct quote) and basically the whole thing gravitated to my being lectured on “how I was part of the problem” and other digs.

So, I posted a response with the note that I was leaving this up for a couple hours as I wanted her to be sure to see it and at the end of that time she was being blocked and unfriended. She responded indignantly, I can just imagine what is being said about me on FB to all her left leaning friends.

Some people are beyond reaching. I had a similar thing with an old college room mate. He kept posting things like "you're smarter than that", "that's misinformation", etc. That was in 2020 and 2021 and in response to my well researched and documented posts.

As is typical, he saw a very abbreviated video clip or transcript of something Trump said which completely misled what really happened. He dogmatically believed anything the left said, but dismissed highly credentialed opposing views. e.g. Dr Fauci saying the jab was safe, vs Dr McCullough on myocarditis in young men.

The economy, gun control, and the border were other areas he picked fights on. We parted ways.

Several other friends from my music circles are like that too. I've had to end the relationships because they are simply irrational with TDS.

Her outrage amazes me. While I do not make light of people losing their livelihood with the potential elimination of their federal jobs where was the outrage to the response four years ago to energy workers faced with losing their jobs were told “Learn to code”? I don’t seem to remember any outrage on her part then.

Nor when during the Obama first term the automakers crash and bankruptcies when it was estimated that in total three million jobs were lost both directly and indirectly through plant closures, dealership closures and cascading bankruptcies from suppliers. I was almost one of those, while I was being courted by three different dealerships as I was job shopping two of the three ultimately closed down, GM terminated one of the stores, another one wile they were a truck repair and parts facility they had also taken on a GM Medium Duty franchise and while the parts and service side stayed active my main experience was in the GM side. The dealership I went to made the cut, dumb luck on my part.

It is truly irrational. Something has happened over the last 20 years where people have become mindless. They instantly believe anything their team says, and instantly hate anything to do with the other team. This effect seems far more prevalent on the left but I do see some of it on the right.

People who are objectively intelligent and educated have become incapable of any independent thought.

Two perfect examples:

1) Elon Musk getting government money for his electric cars. He was venerated by the environmentally woke left for not making gas powered vehicles. The left championed government subsidies for people buying the cars, making the cars, and installing charging stations. Most of us on the right disliked the subsidies but didn't hate the man for playing the game by the rules, nor do we hate electric vehicles. But as soon as Elon is on Team Trump the left not only hates him, they hate all the government subsidies his company got, and they hate anyone who owns a Tesla! And most of those owners probably lean a bit left.

2) Zelinsky. I am seeing so many social media posts about how brilliant Z is, and how he outsmarted stupid DJT and stupid JDV. Yet even just a couple of weeks ago those same people were posting about how impossible it was for DJT to be smart enough to be POTUS because he was a "reality tv personality". Yet, Z's entire career was as an entertainer prior to being elected President of Ukraine but that is no reason for him not to be brilliant!

Do yourself a favor and just stop using Facebook like this to follow people, it's just not worth it anymore. I left in 2020 and don't even miss having to see all my so-called friends and relatives ranting about nonsense anymore.

Facebook started as a way for friends to reconnect but I think it's done more destroying of friendships and family relationships than its helped.

I did go back about 2 years ago under a pseudonym ONLY for things like a few specific local discussion groups for fun and for Yard Sale stuff. That's it and it's SO much better.

Fakebook is just vitriol. As is all social media apps IMO. Everyone is a warrior behind their glass keyboard. Arguing with even friends over politics is not worth it. If you have a discussion, a polite one, and draw some lines in the sand, then that should be mutual. If it oversteps, see ya, and have a nice life! I’ve got shit to do!

Actually I’m down to two Libs there, both friends of probably 40-50+ years.

We have limits and they know so far where to stop. Once personal attacks start the SHTF.

Yes, the border. Ive heard all the hand wringing, they're just looking for a better life.

It usually shut them up when I would say something to the effect of go live there for a few years and get back to me afterwards. Living in a border state for almost a decade definitely opens your eyes.

I could never handle Facebook.

It is interesting that all the Karens at the lot but one, have passes away at an early age. They must have had a stressful life.

I use Facebook but I keep my Friend list very small . I'm not interested in seeing other people's bullshit posts all day AND I keep my page locked from people being able to post on it . Also , I don't post any personal info on it like birthday , etc., nor do I " Check in " anywhere .

The socials are the problem. Before people where limited to short news casts, newspaper and magazine, and the dreaded face to face encounters so it was much harder sit and spew opinions all day along.

Yes. I filter what information I post. Despite working in a adult toy store/range I don’t post anything related to it nor show off any acquisitions or dispositions. I definitely don’t “check in” but sometimes after the event has passed like off roading in my 13 y/o daily driver Jeep I’ll post pictures of the carnage. Even though my page is locked down I still get some surprises mainly “likes” and associated friend requests from photos of women that could be the right age to be my granddaughters.

I have several female lib cousins that make anti-Trump posts on Facebook. I wish I could find a URL presenting a graph of President Trump’s approved rating from Jan 20 to now. Such a reply to their posts would annoy ’em.
