How old is she?
I remember the Diary of Anne Frank being required reading in my public school.
I also visited Germany, and the museums that had whole histories of the holocaust.
And also went to Hiroshima and visited the site of the bombing.
These places have an otherworldly feel. The horrors that happened there resonate.

While I haven't visited the camp sites, I did spend a day at Yad Vashem with a good friend, a priest, who was spit on by an ignorant local as we entered.

The type of people who believe it didn't happen at all are no different from those who believe the Church had something to do with it all. Ignorance abounds.

If only that young gal could have been convinced of the fact that Pope Pius XII saved nearly a million Jews from extermination at the hands of the Nazis, and was lauded by Golda Meier herself, perhaps some level of enlightenment and healing would occur. I suppose that it's just easier to hold on to prejudices and hatred than to admit that you don't know something.

Despite our rather disgusting "welcome" to the museum, it was a day that I won't forget. Sobering.

I just had a big cleanup on my Ducati forum.
I have a picture of me under the infamous gate at Auschwitz.
It was the most emotional experience I had at the time.

The term Nazi gets thrown around WAY too much, without an understanding of what the Nazi's were.
As an admin, I laid down the law.

I think more people should go to Poland and experience it.
I think more people should go to the graves in Normandy.

The lack of the youth's experience and understanding is nothing less than shameful.

I don’t want to waste my time on idiots.
I can’t do it. I just don’t have the patience. Call it a fault, call it intolerance, whatever…
Im just not going to spend my time dealing with idiots that I don’t have to deal with.

I’m forced to deal with enough at work, but if I don’t have to, I wont.

There was an Officer who worked in the district that was a “flat earther / chemtrail” idiot. Nice enough guy until he opened his mouth and said that stupid shit… yeah, don’t deal with him anymore.

It’s all on who and what YOU want to deal with. I already know my bullshit limit.

Now I’ve heard the argument that killing 2700 people every single day for 6 years is improbable but I’ve never heard anyone say Hitler killed no one. That’s just a wee bit nutso.

Oh, yes they can; and they did.

Victor Laszlo: And what if you track down these men and kill them, what if you killed all of us? From every corner of Europe, hundreds, thousands would rise up to take our places. Even Nazis can't kill that fast.

Some folks, you might want to take a moment to try and educate because maybe they genuinely don’t know. I remember getting my hair cut in the last couple of years and having the hairdresser talk about a German girl who was in for a wedding styling and making a derogatory joke about Jewish folks and then she laughed and said “too soon”?
The girl who was doing my hair thought it was funny and shared it with me. I don’t think I’ve ever been more curt with her (because she genuinely has a lot of sunshine and light, and brings a bit of joy into my day whenever I go visit). I just said “it will never be OK to say that”. It shut her right down, and she was very respectful/regretful when I described the elderly veteran who worked at our family business back in the 80s, who basically had to be put back together after the war, and the holocaust survivor that came to visit him at our store to thank him for all of his sacrifices (I only remember because the gentleman had a tattoo on his arm that I was allowed to see and had explained to me. I was just barely a teenager and completely shocked that anyone could put a tattoo on another human without their permission, never mind the rest of the horror).
The German girl and my stylist were both millennial. I cannot believe that schools aren’t required to read more history.
At least make them watch Schindler's List.
It’s another reason I don’t think Nazi memorabilia should disappear. It needs to be explained and not spun.

Some things are up for debate but that is a bit beyond being merely uninformed or biased against a group.

Way too much info out there for even the dimmest wit to deny that.

She's 60, and is not amenable to the truth. She knows better, she saw a podcast. I always knew she wasn't the brightest crayon, but I didn't know she was this fucking stupid. Oh well, I can live without her.

Why not ask her to show you the links and info that convinced her of this Fredward. Share it with the board here, let us examine the details and parse out what we have issues with, you can then go back with a list of facts and correct her in her false belief so that she can have some personal growth?

The gas chambers easily handled those kinds of numbers. The Germans are engineering efficiency experts, and the murder buildings were set up to maximize numbers.

When we visited Dachau, I stood alone in the gas chamber for a few minutes. That was the emptiest feeling space imaginable.

That one kill house alone could have killed and incinerated 2700 people per day.

In case anyone thinks otherwise, I am not a holocaust denier. I'm just mentioning an argument that I'd heard. I'm not sure how anyone could get the idea that I'm a denier but I feel that may be happening.

Considering that the timeline quoted by the deniers is half as long as the actual holocaust, I don't offer them any credence.

Sorry I didn't see your response sooner. No, I didn't think you are a denier, i was just answering the comment about numbers.

Over 20 years ago I was teaching judo at our YMCA. One of my students introduced me to his grandfather a Holocaust survivor. When he passed away, his daughter gave me the original VHS tapes made by Steven Spielberg. Spielberg had crews go to know surviors and film interviews with them. The daughter wanted me to have the tapes to show to my history classes. I still have the original tapes, have made many copies to give to history teachers in our county schools.
I have no patience for deniers.

You ought to digitize them. If you don’t have the ability, a local Mormon Family History Center could help you do it. I’d be happy to do it for you as well if you want to send them to me.Let me know in this thread and email me if you want to go that direction.
