Are your plates stamped metal? The Georgia ones here are just printed on the metal plates.

Yes stamped metal and painted, very old school. They just don't hold up to the weather here. NJ went to a flat printed plate a while ago and not sure if they are plastic or something but they seem to always look better no matter the age.

If no trade & you need new plates, you get a metal temp tag until the new plates come in.

TX has/had a large fraud racket for paper temp tags. IIRC, millions/yr in lost revenues.

I've heard that TX LEO are now encountering fake metal tags that are printed onto a wrap material then placed over metal tag blanks. Criminals will always find a way.

I recently purchased a new truck. I had TX Parks and Wildlife tags on my trade-in. I was told the transfer fee would be $200 so I opted for regular tags. The finance guy pulled a set out and put them on the truck. No temp tags whatsoever. Still don't have a registration sticker for windshield though. They let me keep the TXPW tags.
