See my original post here: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...600047715#7600047715 I drove to the San Diego UPS Customer Service Center today, only to see a sign saying it closed permanently October 2024. There was a sign directing me to the nearest UPS store. Well, it was 9 miles and 20 minutes away. Once there, Audree advised me that they had JUST received a training bulletin saying they would NO LONGER SHIP AMMUNITION. All UPS stores? She didn't know. I specifically went to UPS because one of the moving company estimators said UPS. had a special deal on shipping ammunition. Either .$20 for 50 lbs or $.50 for 20 lbs, I don't remember which. Oh, and UPS has closed ALL their "Customer Service Centers." I know that's where you had to go to ship firearms via UPS, now poof they're gone. There went at least an hour and a half of wasted time, but even more discouraging is the implication that everybody is squeezing gun owners, making their lives miserable, and they don't give a shit. Someone somewhere is probably doing a mmmmooohooohaaahaaaa laugh. I'm giving up for today because I can't take it any more. I was ready to drive it all up in the van, but wife has her own ideas of what she considers safe. It's not the ammunition, with here it's always "W.hat if you got hit from behind, what happens to that weight?" Aaarrgggghhhhh. .Thanks for listening. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

It is becoming ridiculous for law-abiding people to get seemingly simple things done. I had the same UPS dilemma and ended up shipping Fedex ground. Even then some dumb woman told me on their 800 number that they don't do it. Luckily i had already spoken to the manager onsite and he told me it was fine.

Thanks, Dave! I hadn't tried Fedex. I'll give them a try. Do you recall what the shipping fees were per pound? I tried UPS first, as I said above, because they supposedly offered a good deal. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I just received a UPS shipment of ammo from Target Sports a few days ago, Nov 5! -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I just called the local FedEx Office. Person on the phone says FedEx ships only from manufacturer to manufacturer. Fedex website has info on shipping firearm, but not ammunition. So no luck at all still. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

newtosig: yes, if you have a regular account for shipping, it's not a problem. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I don't know what a regular account would be, but we set up some delivery instructions and package tracking info with them years ago. If that's what a regular account is, it's free, and you can track your incoming package when it's on the truck and in our area. Would that help? -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I received an ammo shipment from SGAmmo on November 6th via UPS. I don't have any sort of account with UPS. Some kind of California thing, maybe? Or maybe because I was the receiver and not the shipper? I guess that would mean that SGAmmo has some kind of special relationship/account/agreement with UPS.

UPS Stores are all franchise operations and they may set their own policies. So, while UPS may ship firearms and ammo (Firearms/Ammo dealers may have UPS accounts for direct shipping/receiving via UPS), the stores are not bound to do so. The UPS Stroe ,ocations are no a UPS operation. They won't ship fireqarms and apparently ammo. They are privately owned frincshises . They probably don;t have the legal ability to handle those items. UPS does ship ammo. https://www.ups.com/us/en/supp...w-to-ship-ammunition
These days a scheduled pickup is about the on;y option for a non commercial account.

I bet that’s it. I’ve just recently received a shipment from SGAmmo myself. Don’t online shipments in CA have to go through an FFL? This screws everybody in CA that follows the law. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

A lot if it has to do with Federal HAZMAT shipping regulations. One of which mandates specific training for employees who are involved in accepting the shipment. Maybe the UPS store owner doesn't want to deal with that mess.

It's not just a California thing. UPS does ship ammo, but there are rules. Importantly, you cannot ship ammo via the UPS Store. Despite the name, these are a separate third party franchise apart from UPS itself, and they do not accept ammo. Your options used to be to go to a UPS Customer Center counter at a hub, or print a UPS Ground label yourself and then schedule a pickup by a UPS delivery guy. But considering that UPS has closed all of their Customer Center counters within the past year or so, that has now eliminated that option. So you're left solely with packaging/labeling it yourself and scheduling a direct handoff to UPS. You can either use the UPS website to purchase the label, or a third party shipping label generator service like Pirate Ship. This does require access to a scale and tape measure, to get accurate dimensions and weight. But your local post office or UPS Store could probably help you with just getting the weight of the box, if you don't have a scale at home. Keep in mind that each ammo shipment box cannot exceed 66 pounds, it must be .50 caliber or less, and it can only be shipped via UPS Ground (not Air) and only to a domestic address (not internationally). Also don't forget to apply the necessary 4" x 4" Limited Quantity emblems to the ammo shipment box. (Used to be ORM-D, but those were phased out several years ago and replaced by LQ.) LQ emblems look like this:

Rogue, that was very, very helpful. So that’s a possibility. The UPS website discusses shipping ammunition—but still refers to Customer Service Centers that no longer exist. I got a little farther with FedEx—called another FedEx Office in a more gun-friendly part of SD county (Santee); he told me I could ship from a FedEx Shipping Center, of which there is one close by. I have ordered double-strength boxes from U-Line to fit the cases the ammo is in. I just ordered some LQ (ORM-D) labels from Amazon. But I’m having trouble downloading rate tables from FedEx. I do have an email address (dghotline@fedex.com) to address questions, no person on the line could answer questions, kept playing ring around the rosey. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

You don't have to purchase LQ labels. You can just print them on a piece of paper and then tape them onto the box.

I think it was $22 for 10 lbs from Indiana to Washington state. That reminds me there was another annoyance, i had to send it to an FFL in Communist Washington. The Fedex phone number was a waste of time, theydidn't know anything and just made stuff up.

Yeah, I have found out that Mailboxes Etc... stores did not ship ammo. Rebranding them to UPS Stores didn't change their policies. They were able to ship it out through a UPS distribution center clerk.

FedEx worked for me a couple months ago. I shipped a small amount of 380 to Hornady using a return label they created for me. I did have to drive a few miles to use a shipping center.
