I had some son of a bitch a couple years ago here threaten me by saying that he was a big guy and I wouldn't have the balls to disagree with him to his face, because he picked up heavy things and put them back down a lot.

I tried to explain to him that not all people are scared of other people because they have big muscles, or at all. He would not believe it.

We didn't take it to email, but that's probably the only person since I've been here to be big enough of a dick to piss me off to the point that I remember it.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I've gotten an email before from a regular and well-known contributor here who didn't appreciate my viewpoint on a particular topic and wanted me to know it in no uncertain terms. That's the only time, though.

Now that Salma is old, I have transferred my affections to Scarlet Johansson. Scarlet is a delight.

Damn! I wondered where Scarlet was going when she left at night!

It hasn't happened to me. I've never had a disagreement so bad that it had to be "taken to e-mail."

Well, I've emailed members over topics we discussed but that we didn't agree on, and they emailed me back. We were both amicable and agreed that we disagreed, but really I never heard another word after I sent that envelope with the biohazard anthrax powder in it to him. Weird.

Sometimes I can barely remember to check on threads I start. Why would I ever take the energy to argue with someone?

Besides I have a family business, employees, and customers. I get enough arguing. Big Grin

I may get into a disagreement inside a thread but, seriously, I don't take it outside the thread. I don't remember the person I may have crossed words with. So it's quite possible that I may argue with them in one thread and in the next thread, I may be quoting them in agreement.

I had one guy emailed me because he didn't appreciate me letting him know his avatar size was huge. I didn't consider it an argument; I merely pointed it out to him as common courtesy.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I've done it twice. Glad that I did. I can honestly say that I made two friends that I likely wouldn't have made without discussing it offline.

I have had a few. And a few good discussions.

Some of the best have been with guys I generally agree with too.

Some of the best have been with our resident safe salesman, and on of our local republican leaders. Despite our disagreements we have had good conversation and ended up agreeing to disagree at worst.

It's been a number of years but I did disagree with something someone said in a thread and they took it to email. From memory, I received 2 emails and had decided that if I received a 3rd I would send the exchange to Para. Unlike KevinCW's experience, the person that contacted me didn't want a discussion, just wanted to tell me I was wrong.

A couple of times over disagreements, but not real nastiness. It's funny how much more polite people are one-on-one than in forum posts.

Argument? No. I wouldn't expect everyone to be in total agreement in what I think or say. if that were the case, why even have a site to have these discussions.

On the other hand, I have received a few private emails. In some cases it was to relay information of the area as I live near the Academy and I'm familiar with the surround areas facilities.

In one case it was a note expressing thoughts on a life event I faced early this year. It was a welcome communications and simply further reinforced what great people I've met in the shooting community.
