It just started today and I’ve already grown tired of hearing about it. I have dear friends that love the game and have even played the game at a high level but I just cannot get into the game. I don’t watch much of any sports nowadays but I find soccer particularly dis interesting. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. | Savor the limelight |
I watched a little, maybe 5 minutes, ping pong on TV a few days ago. I won’t be devoting that much time to the World Cup. In fact, this post is all the attention I’ll have devoted to it. Two days ago while driving through Atlanta, GA, my son and I saw a sign over the roadway that said something about expecting additional traffic for a week or so due to a sporting event and I wondered out loud what sporting event could screw up traffic in Atlanta? Fortunately, yesterday’s drive through the Elk Capital of Michigan, Atlanta, was completely uneventful except for the two cars when I arrived at the four-way stop that were trying to figure out who goes first. The locals call it Spaghetti Junction. | |||

Friend is going to Toronto, cheapest tickets he could get were $1000. Said they were face value 600 ea. and taxes fees etc. Don’t know how “3rd world sports” can demand such insane prices. | |||

Watching six year olds play soccer . It's cute for about three minutes and then you start praying for rain . | |||

In high school, I switched from football to soccer, and got a few partial scholarships from schools in Ohio and Indiana. I declined them and took an academic scholarship from OSU Marion (which I blew). I did play intramural at OSU. I try to watch bits and pieces of it, but I just never could watch it on tv or in person. I really fell out a few years ago with all the whining and flopping BS. What surprised me though, is when my friend texted and emailed me that he is watching it.. Blew me away... I have known him for 36 years.. Went to high school and college together, got thrown out of bars together, played sports , etc... The last thing I would have ever imagined coming from him. Then, he said his daughter was really into soccer.. Now it aligns.. I did spend the weekend though watching the World Nations Rugby Cup. (NZ, South Africa, England) I got up about 445 on Tues, and starting the USA vs Ireland in the U20 Rugby Tournament. The Irish was dominating and fast. ((In all fairness to soccer, Rugby is not the same ball as it used to be, they are getting soft also)) I was amazed at all the soccer watch parties around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. I can see sitting in a bar but people are at watch parties outside in the 100 degree heat. | |||
