I'm putting together an AR upper and looking for a 15" Atlas S-One handguard. This is a common, mass-produced item, but they're out of stock everywhere. I was even willing to compromise and go with a 12.7", or the R-One railed version, but those are all out of stock too. I emailed CS to make sure they didn't discontinue it, and was told it's a popular item and to just enter my email address to be notified when it's back in stock. No indication as to when it might be available again.

Annoying that they don't have it. Even more annoying that when trying to search every online retailer known to man I get bombarded on every site by popups asking my age, asking me to sign up for this, trying to let me know about such and such product that I don't care about, give us your email address, become a member, etc. And then the emails start coming..."hey, looks like you're shopping for this!" or "hey, this is still in your cart!" or "Forgetting something?"

I'm literally coming to you trying to spend my money. If you want it, how about you fire whatever do-nothing marketing assholes are cluttering my life with this stupidity and use that money to pay the guy in the back who's actually doing real work to make more product?

Aero Precision is basically going out of business.

Nothing has been made or shipped for awhile.

Not minority enough!

Weol that sucks. I didn't know that...wish the CS rep had just told me that.

The last one of these I bought was under the Ballistic Advantage brand...do you know if they are going under too?

I really like these handguards. They're slim and light, while retaining enough mlock slots to let me mount a light or a sling attachment wherever I want, which is all I need. The barrel nut doesn't need to be indexed, they attach solidly with zero rotation, and don't sound like a tuning fork when you drop the bolt. And they're pretty affordable.

Guess I'm going to have to find something else. Anybody got any experience with the UTG Pro Ultra Slim? Looks like a similar profile at a similar price point, a tad heavier unfortunately, but made in the USA.

Well, I guess we're going to find out. Sportsman's had one on sale so I ordered it.

Years back I put together a precision AR based on the Gibbz Arms Side charging upper with a 20 inch Shilen barrel in 223 Wylde. It will shoot under 3/10 inch at 100 yards. One reason for that accuracy is that the fit between the barrel extension and upper was a Wring Fit. That is a nearly zero condition fit, in my case I got the barrel about 3/4 of the way to fully seated with roughly 50 lbs. of force when it stalled and after that it was tap tap tap with a light plastic faced hammer.

With the Gibbz Arms gear the barrel nut has a hex shape that allows properly torquing the barrel nut to spec using a Crowfoot AND it is also the mount for the Forearm. Note, this does require the purchase of the proper clamping fixture for a standard mil spec. upper to get that torque correct without damage to the upper. The Gibbz Upper has a hex shape at the barrel end so a large crescent or combination wrench can be used. I was so impressed with this setup that for my next two AR's that featured less expensive mil spec uppers I paid the cost for the Gibbz Forearms. BTW on my 16 inch 300 Blackout using a Wilson Combat barrel the fit for the extension required a full wrap of 0.002 inch shim stock and that was a royal PITA to put together. Good news is that it is good for 3/4 inch MOA. Took the same route with my 16 inch in 223 Wylde but didn't need to shim and also used the Gibbz forearm. Below is a link to the Gibbz Arms forearm page. While it seems a bit on the Pricey side they are worth every penny and the mounting system is totally first class.

I've stopped counting.

My build is a little different than what you were going for...I'm trying to put together a light-ish weight carbine. My goal isn't necessarily to punch one-hole groups, but decent accuracy is always appreciated. I got a deal on a blem BCM upper, and sprung for a Wilson Combat "Ranger" profile barrel. Turns out the BCM Upper is thermal fit, so I had to heat it to get the barrel in. My first time dealing with that, and it was a huge PITA, but that thing is rock solid...I think I'll probably have to cut the receiver off if I ever want to remove it.

I really like the light weight and slim profile of the Atlas handguards, and they would have been perfect for what I'm trying to do, but I guess it just wasn't to be. My stuff from Sportsman's still hasn't shipped, so they are probably drop-shipping from the mfg and didn't have it in stock, either, despite what their website said Roll Eyes. With my luck I'll probably get an email in a few days telling me it's backordered.

Ballistic Advantage is basically majority owned by Aero precision. I'm not sure if Aero's financial difficulties extend to BA.
