They are now the size of what used to be a normal cheeseburger. By the time my son is my age burgers will all be the size of a white castle and $40 each.
I guess its good, I need to stop eating fast food anyway. But I spent years on the road living out of vending machines and fast food, and am back travelling again so I'm eating it more again. Its just flat ridiculous the cost vs the quantity and quality now.

I do like their Mix-and-Match breakfast for $5.00. A steak biscuit and sausage McMuffin with egg is my Saturday treat.
Pro tip:
- get four strawberry jam packets
- take the 1/2 biscuit without the onions and the 1/2 English muffin without the cheese, use two packets of jam on each. Makes for a sweet finish (for those of us needing such) to the meal without getting anything extra like cinnamon roll, apple pie, etc.

Remember when any size coffee was a dollar? And they had a number of $1 menu items? You could get three or four of these items and make a not-half-bad meal. I ran out of it one morning and went to get some. I didn't expect it to be a buck, but was a little surprised to see the large coffee was $2. This rivals the price at the nearer convenience store. Partial credit for the coffee being better than the convenience store's - actually pretty good.
As to the OP, if that burger patty wasn't a quarter pound before cooking, it is false and misleading to call the sandwich a quarter pounder. Maybe they get around it through some vagary of the law.

Did the same thing the other day. Went into McDonald's for lunch for the first time in I couldn't even tell you how long, and was quite disappointed. Like it wasn't ever award winning amazing fare, but it was consistent and decent enough. All I could think was I could have done better at home for cheaper, not like I was pressed for time either.

McdDonald's does serve good quality coffee.

That got me thinking: do they actually say that the burger patty is 1/4 pound? Maybe the whole sandwich, including the bun, pickle, ketchup, etc. weighs 1/4 pound.

Other than the coffee run posted above, I haven't been to McDonalds in probably ~2 years.

I have an old (possibly imperfect) recollection, in its advertising, of the patty itself being ¼ lb. before cooking it. The sandwich being ¼ lb. in its entirety would be awfully small.

I hit McDonald’s 3, or 4, times a year, and I’m always disappointed. I guess it’s just memories from when I was a kid that keep me going back. In the last year it has gotten really bad. I stopped in there Thursday, and got a Big Mac meal. It was terrible. The bun had to be left over from last week, the meat was maybe 1/8th inch thick, and about 2/3rds the diameter of the bun. Thankfully the fries are still pretty good, and I do like the Sausage Egg McMuffin. So far anyway.

The USA is one of few places that aren't totally metric. A Quarter Pounder makes no since to the metric brain so I gather somewhere it's called a Royale.

I rarely hit fast food joints. I was heading to a shooting match in the early morning hours, was going past a McDonald’s so I figured what the heck, grab a “value meal” $12!

Makes that grammar school public lunch seem like 5 stars. I’m surprised, at this point, that they still serve it hot. By now I would have thought the robot would serve you your plastic tray of filth, and it would robotically say “The microwave is there” and have you heat it up yourself. Prisoners eat better.

^^^^^^This. In addition to jacking up their prices on low quality food, they completely destroyed their branding they built 80 years building. Their restaurants remind me of hospital rooms.
They got the bright idea during COVID to discourage people from dining in as a cost savings measure.
Hey, I have an idea, let's eliminate every reason people have to eat at our restaurant; cheap, fast and a place to sit.
