Hey, I have an idea, let's eliminate every reason people have to eat at our restaurant; cheap, fast and a place to sit.

They got the idea when it was decided that they had to pay their minimum wage workers a "Living Wage" of $15 an hour, so they put in the kiosks and encouraged people to order to go so they could hire less workers.

I suppose it's easier than "113.4 Gram with Cheese."

The wife and I recently went to Chili's for the first time in a few years and we both got their new $10.99 3 For Me deal:

1. Salad or soup
2. The "Big Smasher": a nice big smashburger with diced onions, shredded lettuce and pickles with American cheese and burger sauce, plus fries. The Chili's take on a Big Mac. It was delicious.
3. Drink

Compare that to the McDonalds down the road that wants something like $11.99 for a very crappy, very small, very dried out and very lousy Big Mac medium combo all served to you by a surly couldn't-give-a-shit worker.

I used to like to stop at McDonald's for breakfast, to get an Egg McMuffin or two. But no more since their muffins changed and now taste like cardboard. I just stop at Whataburger for a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit, instead.

4oz BEFORE cooking? Fuck you, McD's.

Burgers can loose 10-20% of their mass during cooking.

The McDonald's around me all overcook the burgers until they a way to dry, sometimes even crispy. BK, Wendy's and especially 5 Guys all cook the burgers better.

I was just in the post office and talked to an elderly couple while we were waiting in line.

They said they'd been married for 62 years and that they had pancakes at McDonalds this morning.

Just pancakes, not a Big Breakfast, just pancakes and 2 coffees. They shared the pancakes.

He said " It was NINE Dollars!" to share some pancakes and each got a cup of coffee.

Then both he and his wife were telling me that 62 years ago they could eat a simple breakfast for a buck or buck and a quarter.

Yes, times have changed.

My wife and I rediscovered Chili's back in August/September because of the 3 For Me deal. You're right, the burger is huge compared to McD's and so much better. The salad is a proper size and they give you more fries than you can eat with that burger. We always sit in the bar area and the service at our location has always been great. We have been going at least a couple of times per month. I also like to get their monthly margarita, just for something different.

Late 80's, by friend was working at McD's and he'd bring home hamburgers.
1. Frozen, they were white as snow. 2. We'd cook then on my gas BBQ grill and they're shrink to about the size of a poker chip.

The McHospital environment is a put off.

They are supposed to be remodeling all of them eventually.

When one converts away from self pour refills, I rarely go back.

Yes, the future of all McDonald's is the small, much-reduced interior footprint with stark gray and white everything and no more self-serve soda machines. They’re mostly all the new standard around here: tiny almost afterthought of a counter, a huge rack-shelf-thing for all the pickup orders and Door Dash orders and multiple self-order kiosks. If you try to order at the counter around here, multiple people will ignore you until you either walk away and leave or use the kiosk.
